My fancy green cheek Coconut can be the sweetest bird, cuddling and allowing me to hold him or her in my hands, but then Coconut will nip me hard even when he seems to be playing, hard enough to break the skin and cause a sore. I can understand when he is territorial, coming out of his cage and feeling like he needs to show he owns the place, but it makes no sense that he is nipping so hard at times when he seems to be enjoying himself. He often seems to do this when he is puffed up and looking like a typical dancing parakeet. I wish I could also stop the territorial behavior. He sometimes gets very very vicious when he comes out of his cage in the morning. He will fly on my head and then behave after that, but at first he is a terror. What can I do to stop these behaviors?
