As some of you may or may not know, we are bringing home two and most likely a third Macaw within the new few weeks. Jazzy, our female GW Macaw was the first to make it home. She weaned early and is alsmot 5 months old.
She was pretty quiet on the 2 1/2 hour drive home and did eat some apples in her crate (pictured). She spent the first three hours on the table top play stand (pictured) and finally started playing with some of her foot toys. She didn't want to step up to me, but did step up to a hand held perch and I put her in her cage for about two hours. When I came to get her out later at night she stepped right up to me from inside the cage and I took her upstairs and set her on the play stand/ swing (also pictured). She immediately started playing with the hanging foot toy. She then stepped up to me and I brought her in close to my chest while I sat up in bed. I was scratching the back of her neck... I look down and her head is completely turned sideways resting on my shoulder and she was sleeping I let her stay there for about 45 minutes.
This morning was great as well. She only called out once when my wife left for work - she leaves early before 6am. When I came downstairs to let her out she was excited to see me and wanted scritches and attention. I gave her about an hour of one on one time and once again, only one single call out when I had to go by her cage again to let the dogs out before I left for work.
She's an absolutely sweet girl and loves attention. She is very gentle. I can't wait to get home to play with her on the floor - which I am told she loves
