Java tree stand or manzanita tree stand???

Ok...so I have a table top Java tree for Coco and would like to get a tall tree stand as this table top isn't so convenient and it's kinda small I've seen some decently priced manzanita tree stands on ebay but I'm not sure if they're as good as the java. I would like to use this tree with our B&G we should be getting late summer as well. Any experiences would be appreciated.

I haven't purchased Java, but Pritti has had various sized and shaped manzanita. He seems to like having a go at peeling off the thin brown bark (if that's what it is). I also like the twisty shapes of the manzanita instead of the straight branches I've seen on Java. It gives him a good workout climbing up and town the twists and turns. Whichever you decide will be great. Coco is a lucky bird.

If you get a manzanita perch make sure to get the sanded one. If you decide on the java perch sand it down a bit to add texture. It's really slick. I own both and Nalani prefers the manzanita over the java. Until I had sanded the java, she would constantly slip and slide off. Remember that eclectus don't have as strong of a grip compared to other birds. So although the java may be more aesthetically nicer, comfort is more important. Have you considered ribbon wood or grape wood perches?

I love Rosie's java perch, it is beautiful and she loves it. I wish I could afford, and had space for a whole tree. I've seen manzanita tree's, some really cheap at parrot shows, as low as $80!

I've never liked that the manzanita tree's are nailed together. That's the nicest thing about the java wood, it's all one piece.

I put vet wrap on Rosie's. before she was slipping off but now it has a wonderful soft grip.

@Moni.K -- just wondering why the manzanita perch should be sanded. Is it a recommendation specifically for Ekkies or for any parrot. All of Pritti's manzanita has always had the thin dark brown bark. Is there something unsafe or bad about it? Pritti is a Cherry-headed conure.

Ive read that manzanita is too slippery for ekkies.

It's very slippery with the bark on it, sanding helps a little.

I'm sure there are many who own and swear by using the java tree stands. I just speak from my experience. There was a single straight horizontal branch that Nalani was limited to. The other shapes and position of the branches would make her slip off. So I purchased a sanded manzanita perch. Not the non sanded, brown branch kind, those are just as slippery as the java perches. Nalani really enjoyed it and her grip wasn't compromised. Thus, I sanded down by hand using sand paper the java perch and just like that it solved the problem with slipping. It's definitely more aesthetically nicer compared to other perches. But if I could turn back time, I would have spent the money for another manzanita perch or even a ribbon wood perch. Although, I only have the java perch in large "tabletop" so i can't really say the same for the larger perches that they offer. Just my opinion, theres nothing wrong health risk wise with the perches, but more of a preference. Like I said, there are many owners who really love the perch, but I think Nalani prefers the manzanita better, so I vote manzanita (sanded of course)

I personally have both as well although the java tree is gone, so I have the manzinata one left, my guys love the tree and I plan to get another and I'd probably get another manzinata, I just prefer them as they come in a way better variety I think, well because java is just grown and cut and then boom this your tree as manzinata is put toghether with stainless feel screws.. I just wrap Alittle rope around parts of the perches and let the rest be bark

Some manzanita perches are sand blasted. It gives them a nice pitted texture for added no-slip. This one is put together with recessed bolts.

I found this for $120 on CL. I didn't even haggle :41:

Believe it or not, but after having Ripley, my Green Wing, for only a bit over 3 months, the Java trees don't quite look like that any more. Both my Macaws are heavy duty beavers...I mean wood chucks...NO, I mean chewers.
