So I want to tell everybody about today but I already have typed alot so I'm just going to post the e-mail I sent to my friend. She asked: "I think it's been about a week since Linius's passing and I wanted to know if you were doing okay. How have you been holding up?" This is what I told her: A week and one day. Actually this weekend I went back to church for the first time in five years. It was my first latin mass. I also spent the weekend with some great friends and did a lot of things for the first time. I had my first beer, which was kinda gross, and I shot guns for the first time. The whole family was shooting them for fun. I shot two shotguns, a rifle, and a pistol. The shotgun had such a kick it left a bruise!I've come to accept the fact that he is gone, but I feel restless since I don't have a bird that demands my attention anymore. I came back today and on the way I stopped to get some stuff for my parakeets. I got them a play stand for my tabletop, some pellets to try to get them off the seed diet, and some millet to start training soon. While I was at the store the ladies remembered me and asked how Linius was doing, I told them what happened and they felt really bad. I noticed they had an african grey, a timneh to be exact. I could tell it wasnt one of their birds and asked about it. Turns out its owner died last week too. Her name is katie and she's 500$ with cage and everything. They let me hold her and she went straight to my shoulders and gave me kisses. She was so sweet. Made me think how Linius used to go straight for my shoulders and give me kisses. When I got home my mom told me how the neighbor dropped off a check for me. The neighbor whose dog killed Linius. It was a check for 250$. I could use the money to buy Linius's sibling or I could use that and my parents could get me money to get the timneh. I just felt that when I held her we both could feel the suffering in our hearts. Lame I know right? My Mom isnt fond of the idea of getting a Timneh but she'll let me if I really want. The cage is very big and I couldnt even tip it if I tried. I'm also scared that if I got Linius's sibling I'd mistake it for him, or I'd just be reminded of him too much. Silly huh? Thanks a lot for being worried about me. It shows how kind you really are.

I feel you there! IF you feel such a bond with the African Grey, I would say go for it. Just remember, it's a different requirement then your Linius. You only think Linius was demanding.... Just be prepared for it.... IF you feel that strongly about the African Grey, I would call them first thing in the morning at the pet shop to let them know you want him before someone else grabs him. It takes that special bird to grab our heart and it seems like this one have grabbed yours. Of course no one can ever replace your Linius, but this little guy might mend it for you. Good Luck!

I know TAGS are super birds. My Rosie is so sweet, quiet and smart. They, like any other bird, needs lots of stimulation. Rosie is comfortable playing by herself and not afriad to meet strangers or new toys. What ever you decide will be right for you. The price is excellent.

What a wonderfull story! Not Lame at all!! Sometimes things happen for a reason, some more painfull than others. Very possible 2 bad things happening could make something great.
I used to have a Rottweiler named Samson, he was the BEST Friend ever! He passed away several years ago of old age. I could never own another one, I would always compare the new Dog to Samson. He was that special. Similar to your Linius.

That's the saddist and sweetest story I ever read well you know what i mean :D sad cos you lost a dearest companion and now you found another. It sounds as if you have found another companion that maybe matched like your Linius. For that price you've got a bargin really. If I was you I'll make that call and bring him home.

You never forget a loved pet, many years may pass, but memories will always be there.
Not a day goes by, without me thinking of my two beautiful Greys' that had passed on. Today I still watch some of their video's, remembering the good times.
Only you will know when the time is right to get another bird, follow you gut feeling and go with it. If there was a connection I would say go for it......

It sounds like you're adjusting. Remember, this is going to take some time. How nice of your neighbor! So many would just have said, "Sorry!" if they went to that much trouble. Take this slowly and let us know if we can help.

I thought of you this weekend, Merlin & I had our 1st spring day on the deck. I'm recommited to not leaving him alone for an instant. My neighbors dog manages to get in our fenced in yard from time to time, so I could be in your shoes if I'm not careful. I love african grey parrots, I wanted one but decided to go w/an amazon instead. I've found that the smarter the animal, the more attention they need. I fooled myself, Merlin is amazing w/how he understands his world. Hope you make the right choice for yourself when you buy your new birdie. I'm glad you are doing better & wish u the best.

I agree with everyone here... do what your heart tells you.. sometimes a bird picks you good luck with your decision
