And he has come a long way already. His cage aggression has drastically lessened and his demeanor has improved. He is slowly learning that chasing feet is not okay (he will occasionally go after my wife and so though).
His pasturela is completely gone and he is getting feathers back on his chest and back.

He likes to play on the ground in the living room, his toys include two tennis balls, a cotton rope dog toy, and a fleece strip toy we made. For some reason he prefers to bury himself in a sheet of fleece fabric we bought to use as a cage cover.

How safe is the fleece and tennis ball for him? I'm concerned with the fabrics

What are some methods for stand training? Within five seconds of being out on his PVC stand he slides down and gets back to playing.

Another issue we have run into is that he gets very aggressive towards me when I put him and Tess on the ground or close to each other.

ETA: just noticed when he's playing and getting really rambunctious he pants, almost like a dog but it doesn't seem to slow him down, should I be concerned?

Your babies are beautiful!

I'd like to respound just to bounce this up so that someone else will help answer some of your concerns.

My macs all played with fleece toys and blankets. They generally don't ingest them, just tear them up and/or play tug of war/peek-e-boo with them...

Woody had a fleece blanket that he would defend to the death... and he'd waddle over and hand it to you when he wanted you to play games... BUT THAT'S MINE!!! DON'T TAKE IT AWAY FROM ME...

My CAG is my tennis ball bird. He has a ball on a rope that he plays with and also occasionally uses as a preening toy. None of my other birds seem to like them. As long as they aren't ingesting the fuzz it's fine.

Maggie has a bird kong that she likes.

As far as the rough housing on the floor routine. That's pretty normal. Just enforce the boundaries, and don't get them too worked up, and they usually fall in line with time and patience.

This last week has been another one of the periods of huge leaps and bounds for Chico. He as suddenly found himself enjoying close bonding with my wife and I and his aggression has really decreased. He now is comfortable enough to fall asleep on our laps, or take a nap on the ground while playing (he'll stop what he's doing, lift his tail up and put his head down.... then sleep).

he is still very defensive of Tess, if we are around her and she gives any sort of protesting squawk Chico will stop playing and walk out to make sure she is ok.

he's a good boy, we are glad he's with us.
