I LOVE to learn. Problem is, if I learn about something, I want it.
I've learned about so many different parrot species (and birds in general) the past couple days and I want them ALL.

red factor sun conure? need.
hanging parrot? need.
cordon bleu (yes like the chicken dish) finch. need.
black faced fire finch? need.
Lutino plum headed parakeet? need.

etc

LOL. Ok just take one of these and you will right as ninepence

My list is just as long....
B&G Macaw
Golden Conure
Blue from 'zon
yellow nape 'zon
Spectacled 'zon
White Front 'zon
oh hell , any amazon , like 'Boats, I tend to be a amazon snob, but B&G macaws just look so happy. ANd Golden conures are beautiful.

Amazons have definitely grown on me over the years, and I'd love to have more if I had the space. Blue fronts are my weakness (I have three after all) but I'd love to have other species as well.

Amazons are lovely but haven't grabbed my heart yet. it's all the little birds like parakeets and conures that I need. xD finches too. I love finches.

Same I'm a small bird girl through and through :) love the big boys but they don't own my soul like the little ones :)

But much as I like all of these, at the end of the day there can only be Salty. How can one add to a parrot that calls me "Daddy" , He greets me every night when I get home with a "Hi Daddy", and Geri says some days he will just call Daddy in a plaintive voice. And is the most amazing, perfect parrot for us. Nah, buddy, you will never have to share our hearts.

Actually at the top of my "must have" list right now it isn't even a bird; it's sugar gliders. I need them. Buuuut with human baby set to arrive in a few weeks I have to wait. Oh well.

I almost got sugar gliders at one point! but then my mom's co-worker had a neighbor that abandoned their rat in the cage and everything and I couldn't leave him so I took him. he was such a sweetie and I miss him.

I have a medium list:
Pearly Conure
Turquoise Green Cheek Conure
IRN
Bare-eyed Cockatoo

But as a wise man just said...we're probably only a 1 bird family. Ollie is amazing and let's face it...no other bird will ever compare. Plus he's a dream to travel with in a car or plane or train! And he's pretty quiet for a sun conure. Also traveling with 2 parrot if probably way way way harder.

SilverSage a girlfriend and I had a sugar glider, to put it blunt, they feel super soft and are cute; but they are un-trainable ungrateful little asses. And their diet is hard to manage, all fresh fruit and vegetables, and mealworms; the only cool thing was watching it eat mealworms live. It would sit on our shoulders and eat some cantaloupe and a mealworm then decide uhm I'm going to do a suicidal leap uhmmm THIS WAY! and just jump off for no reason. We ended up giving it up to another family. And I was so relieved...

They just aren't that smart... Yes it's probably the cutest, softest mammal ever, but when we got rid of it I had a sigh of relief.

Don't worry, I plan to spend time with some before actually adopting :)

At one time, we wanted a ferret badly! Fortunately though, a situation came up where we had to babysit one for a weekend. After that weekend, we swore we would never get one!

I adore ferrets but we won't ever own one. There are too many downsides that don't really fit with our family.

I've thought about fostering some sugar gliders for a while but I don't usually see them in rescues, etc and I don't want to drop hundreds on "buying" one from someone who is just trying to get their money back from making a huge investment in an exotic pet that they don't want.

We were planning on getting them pretty soon here but with the pregnancy it may well be another 20 years before we actually move forward with any non-bird exotics.

So sugar gliders, hedge hogs, geckos, bearded dragons, tortoises, etc are all on hold for a couple of decades.

I have a hedgehog and I love him to death but honestly would never get a hedgehog again. They're really messy and can stink. Not to mention they're anti-social by nature so there's only so much bonding you can do. Then they're nocturnal so they're rarely awake when you are which makes for not a lot of play time.
Not to detour you from getting one of course because Alex (my hedgehog) is the love of my life and I will never regret getting him. he's been a fantastic companion but the downsides of hedgehogs as they are just puts me off from getting another.
Lincoln loves the hedgehogs though! (my brothers girlfriend is living with us and has one) whenever he climbs down from his cage he usually goes straight to one of their cages and climbs up.

so.....mammals suck....birds RULE!!!! we have a consensus....
