I can't believe that a grape vine I planted the beginning of October actually flowered and set grapes. It was 32 degrees last night into this morning and I still have grapes on the vine. Man you have to love Florida.

hahahahahahaha, yep 32 and frost on the pumpkin this morning. We have a cold snap that will be keeping day time temps in the upper 50's to lower 60's. a few days ago, it was in the 80's:)

 Wait...you JUST planted that grape 3 months ago, and it's already PRODUCING????

What do you feed your grapes? :54:

Which variety is this??? :D

That's quite the temperature change! I can assure you it hasn't been in the 80's here since 1 day last summer..lol.

hahahahahahaha, it was most likely a male plant Mikey, which are most of the plants in the wild. You need a self fertile vine, which you can find at about any Lowes or Home Depot. I stay away from the wine or table grapes and go with the Muscadine variety, which is a hardy stock and thrives in warmer climates as well as cold climates. The skin is thinker than regular eating grapes, but the flavor is a lot better.

Yeah, when I bought the vine, I noticed it had buds on it, which I thought would drop off with the coming cold or in Florida cool weather. But it flowered and set fruit. I picked two grapes yesterday and tried them and they were getting rip. A few more weeks and they will be sweet as sugar:)

These are the Carlos variety of the Muscadine grape. It's a self fertile variety.

That makes sense Mike....perhaps I'll try it again when I build something for them to climb on. It's been years ago in prior residence where they were planted.

I took one of the cuttings from one of my vines and stuck it in a pot of potting mix and got it to root. Now in the spring it will leaf out and be a grape vine and ready to plant. You can see the little white root growing out of the bottom of the stem.
