Hi! I wanted to make my Budgie something cozy to sit on while he's with me so I decided to crochet him a little blankie (not for cage just for my desk) So far he loves to sit on it but it occurred to me that it may not be safe for him, so I wanted to ask if I should discard it or not?
Is yarn safe for budgies?

I can't say for sure but.....I can't imagine why it would be bad. if its natural fibers then its safe.

- B&G Macaw, Galah, 5 cockatiels, 50 billion and a half budgies. We breed and do rescue. Too many to list each individual's name and age etc, but they are each individuals and loved dearly.
Gosh but he is cute!! LOVE baby budgies. I just want to give him little scratchies and millet sprays and kisses. :3 What a sweet little guy.
As long as he doesn't chew on it I think it would be fine. Chewing changes things as I don't know if he would be able to pass the fibers or if they might cause an impaction the way cotton, etc can. Jute/hemp may be a safer option if he starts to nibble. Or a seagrass mat, but that doesn't have that same "stitched with love" kind of thing since it would be premade. Oil free sisel is another option, but it is a stiffer, more "poke-y" type of rope than hemp or jute.
Edit to add: I'm guessing the fan is just a raised surface, but make sure not to turn it on when your little buddy is sitting there. The breeze could be bad for him.

No, its nit safe. See those fuzzy. Thats the same fuzzy from happy huts that causes impaction. Its hard for them to expel that fuzz stuff from their mouth, so the swallow it.

Picture seem very full crop, ir overweight? Doesn't exactly look fluffed. But picture hus shape seems off, way to round. But could easily be the way sitting ir angle of picture

Thanks So much! I'll see if he starts to chew it or anything, and is he does I'll take it away, Also he looks that way because he gets uncomfortable with the phone he usually looks like this! (Also idk if its related but im fairly sure he's hit puberty, again not sure if related)

I would use a folded wah cloth or towel. Those fuzzy can wrap around toes, be on him when grooms wrapping around tounge, those little micro fiber fuzziness are the most dangerous.

I still think hand woven hemp is a good choice too. Puberty? That little baby? Hmm, maybe if he is an early bloomer. Why do you think he has hit puberty? He looks a bit young for that yet if you ask me. How old is he? Looks like he hasn't even started his first molt yet from the photos.
Most of my budgies I don't notice much of a change with. Fatty Dingdong had a very noticable change tho. Went from a sweet little guy to a vicious monster overnight. OUCH those little beaks can hurt when they want them to! The good news is puberty craziness is tempoary and they settle back down.

Hey! Sorry haven't checked this post in a bit. In another post I made about the biting someone had suggested he was going through puberty (Im a first time bird owner so im not 100% sure) but hes around 9-10 weeks old or so, Its the only thing that really would make sense about his change in behavior because he's usually a sweet heart! He's back to normal now so I think maybe it was just a rough few days.
