So generally I let Lincoln go with the sun. He sleeps when the sun goes down and awake when the sun comes up. But I always hear 12 hours of sleep 12 hours awake. Now of course he naps throughout the day but does he need 12 continuous hours of sleep? Obviously depending on the time of year amount of daylight and such varies but? Is letting him go with the sun okay or should I be monitoring his sleep more?

do you wrap the cage with a "blankey" of some sort?

I dont know the ecc. My bird is an equator bird GWM, and yes. while he will go 12 hours. I can hear him moving around some nights and some days he will pull the wrap off his cage.

The point is 12 on 12 off is the same as Lights on, lights off..

sorta.....

and oh! the more activity he gets during the day.. the more he will periodically nap during the day..

Owlet, my birds also follow the sun, and I'm "directly west" of you, so they get the same amount of sleep as Lincoln does.

I do not believe that parrots require 12/12 hours of day and night, and feel that it could potentially result in some birds being hormonal year round... so following the natural day/night (when possible) can help to reduce hormones to specific times during the year.
