Hi! I have had my conure now for a little over month now she will be 8 in August. I got her from her original owner. I was wanting to know if it is normal for them to want to stay in their cage instead of being out and about. She loves to be petted and when she does come out she loves it. She plays on top of her cage and she will step up on my finger (sometimes) to get on my shoulder. And the first couple weeks she would get in my shirt and go to sleep. She still will give me kisses and she would preen my hair and eyelashes. But all of a sudden shes not so lovey and doesn't do that anymore and wants to stay in her cage...I leave her cage doors open for her to come out whenever.I'm a stay at home mom so Im home all day. But she also wont step up very well only when she wants to. Usually its when shes on top of her cage. And if shes on my shoulder I have to lean down to let her off or she will bite my finger if I even try to get her to step up. She also will turn on me in a minute.ill be petting her then she will squawk and try and bite :( so i stop petting her and leave her be.Do they go through stages where they don't want to be out and play or is something wrong with my sweet girl! :( she is eating her fruits and veggies and still plays will all her toys and seems happy.

Since this behavior change has come on rather suddenly, I'd take your bird to the vet just to be safe. It's probably nothing - but it's possible that she could have a subclinical infection and just not be feeling well. Best to rule that possibility out first!

Well she seems like she is wanting to mate really bad and kept trying to mate with me. She she mates with her dozy corner blanket every day... is that normal?
