Lenny (Turquoise Green Cheek Conure)
Hi! So I just finished setting up a cage for my green cheek conure that we will be taking home in about two weeks ( I’m actually going to go visit him today). Do you guys have any suggestions for stuff I could add? I made sure to check the rope perch if it had any loose parts on it. The cage dimensions are 24 x 24 x 60 inches. EDIT: I just wanted to say that I'm going to add newspaper to the bottom, but not till we get him in two weeks.

Nice! For sure, add several branch perches! Of all places, Walmart has several, a third the price! Any maple or sycamore is also good.
What is the bar spacing, larger than 5/8 is a danger!

Conures are very acrobatic and enjoy keeping busy. The trick is to see what textures he's attracted to. Mine loves wood, seagrass, bamboo and anything natural. He's not interested in plastic at all. Keep trying out toys until you figure it out and then add a few more for variety. Then rotate them out to keep it interesting.

Thanks! The bar spacing is about 1/2 I believe.

The size of that cage is great for a Green Cheek, but the bar spacing looks quite large, too large in-fact for a Green Cheek, as they often not only squeeze through the bars and escape, they also get their heads/necks stuck in the bars and this never ends well. If their head can fit through the bars then the spacing is too large, and that really does appear to be a problem in these photos. Though again, it may just be the photos...

Lots of toys for him to chew on, like kabobs and paper/rattan toys that he can tear apart, my Green Cheek loves to chew and rip things apart, as well as a swing, he loves his swing! Lots of perches that are different diameters and different materials, like a sandpaper or rough perch for his toenails...And Walmart does actually sell a good amount of bird toys that are a fraction of the price of the same thing at Petco or Petsmart. I actually bought my Senegal a HUGE wooden block/rope toy at Walmart last month for $7.87, and I knew I had seen it at Petco, so I took the Walmart bag in with me to Petco and sure enough they were selling the exact same toy for $24.99!!! My Senegal destroyed it in a week, but at that price I can just replace it!

That cage looks nearly identical to the one my jenday is in.

It does look similar in bar-spacing, but this is going to be for a little Green Cheek, if it was for a Sun, Jenday, Nanday, etc. the bar-spacing wouldn't be a question, it just looks extremely wide to me for a Green Cheek, but like I said, it could just be the way the photo looks...

I would say that the cage needs more toys at least! Maybe some more perches, but definitely more toys!
