Is this a creative solution to foot mutilation?

:white1: Okay, so Nora is on Day 3 with her e-collar. We took her to the vet for a terrible foot mutilation problem she has which she continues to tear up. Rather than letting it heal, she will continuously pick at it until the wound is fresh again and starts bleeding. She is on the verge of losing her right toe!

Anyway, she's very uncomfortable with the e-collar. She's not getting enough sleep, is having a hard time eating/drinking (we need to hand feed her) because the e-collar gets in the way. She also can't stand on her cage correctly and is just having an overall difficult time maneuvering. So I was thinking of maybe taking off her e-collar and buying two medium sized shower-type suction cups tomorrow and putting those on her feet. They would basically act as little e-collars for her feet. Would she still be able to get to the wound?

This sounds reasonable, but honestly, I really don't know if it would work. Maybe put a call into your vet to get their opinion.

I'm thinking it would make her really clumsy...and she'd probably chew them...

I thought they had soft collars now somewhat like a turtle neck sweater. That is what I saw on a bird at my vets office and the owner of the bird said it was working well.

She will just chew the suction cups off.
Dexter , my grey had to wear a collar due to wings ulcers. He rolled around the miserably for a whole day. Very upsetting. I placed his perches very low, almost touching the ground and put a low cat water and food bowl on the bottom of the cage. It only took about an hour or two for him to use them. There are several collars available now. The E-collar, a ball collar and a tube collar. You may have to experiment as to which works best. In time your baby will get use to it.
Are you applying meds to the foot? I hope you see improvement soon!

Hi, I am experiencing the same type of issue with my AFrican grey see our story. How is your parrot doing?? The collar my bird wears goes from the neck down around past his belly. He is very very mobile and has gotten used to wearing it, but he cannot preen himself :( would like to exchange thoughts soon ...
