Lucy, my BFA really loves cheese, French fries, candy, and meat. A lot of people say no people food but I feel like im a hypocrite if I eat junk food and don't give her any. Just yesterday she was in the car with me and she wanted some McDonalds food. I tried to say no but she gave me the angry glaring eyes when I pulled the French fries away from her. I know it sounds dumb, but anyone else have expierences with being bullied by your parrot into giving them food?

No offence but McDonald's food is bad for us humans never mind our parrots

I don't see why she can't have any non-salt french fries in some type moderation (i mean, it's pretty much potatoes) but I'd worry a bit about the dairy and the candy... Parrots can occasionally have cheese in little snippets, it isn't toxic but pretty unhealthy in large amounts.

To be completely honest, I think that you need to find a way or power yourself to not feed her any junk food, even if you feel hypocritical. Parrots shouldn't be fed any junk food because there are health concerns that can develop down the road (with them eating large amounts of sugars and salt).

Think of it this way, if your dog pulled down a bag of onions and growled when you tried to take it away, would you allow your dog to continue eating them? (knowing that it can end up being toxic)

Don't feel bad, Lil' Chodi does not eat table food like Sasha and Gizmo, however, he LOVES McDonald's fries. And croissants from Starbucks. He recognizes both. So in moderation he gets french fries every now and then, and a piece of croissant. I have the cutest photo of him, one day we had McDonald's and he just walked over and helped himself to my fries (again, he does NOT eat human food, sticks to nutriberries, seeds and pellets - so we were surprised). If I can find the photo, I will post it. :)

Kiwi gets a little human food now and then, and before I went off the total health-nut deep end:) he's even get the occasional french fry, small bit of cheese, bit of a pizza crust ext... But we've eaten organic/home made for years, so it was never the really processed/additive filled versions of those foods. I wouldn't ever give a bird fast food or conventional "junk food". Who knows what their reaction might be to some of the additives/preservatives/dyes ect...

The key with healthy human food is moderation. A small (homemade) french fry or nibble of cheese every once in a blue moon won't kill your bird. Getting those things every day or multiple times a week even might cause health problems though.

Ricco does get a french fry or 2, pizza crust ( small piece) and maybe even a corn chip now and then.

They love it as much as we do..haha.

Like MY doctor tells me..."in moderation"!

I give my fids cheese..not a lot..like on a piece of veggie pizza..and when I scramble them eggs I tear small pieces to melt with the eggs and they seem to like it too. I'm not a Mcy-dee's eater, but when I do eat there,I make sure I get fries with NO SALT..I'm not big into salt myself, and when I do get the fries,it means they have to cook a fresh batch anyway :54:
As far as candy goes..NEVER!

Allow her to help you make better choices for your quick meals, for both of you. :)

Delis and bakeries can be healthier quick choices. A lot of times tastier too if it's local and they are making their breads and such right there. most will have fruits/veggies/whole grain breads that can be shared with your bird without any guilt.

That said, I give Foo once in a while unhealthy foods too. Like a little crust off the pizza. most of the time I allow my pets to convince me to eat healthier though when i'm in a junky mood. I need the push sometimes to keep my face out of the junk.

Yes they all love what they are not supposed to have. Why not take some of her treats with you and hopefully if you feed these whilst feeding you she wont be so interested and will stop glaring. :) It's the joining in that is usually the important part to them. Your friend wouldn't be chuffed to have to sit and watch you eat either would they? Give it a go :)
