my darling lovebird
So i finally got neon a friend today.
She seems pretty okay -she was breathing through her mouth and was really scared, which i think all new birds do at first. On the way back home, she suddenly became really calm and slept more than half the way. The few times she woke up was to regurgitate all over the floor. when we reached home i put her cage right in front of neon's. and she was still sleeping. when i opened the door to put her food in, she woke up and squeaked. neon got really excited and screamed back, which she didnt react to. aaand then she slept again.
neon came out of her cage and got put near the new lovie. this was really weird cause neon was all chirping and playing around her cage but she was sleeping. Again. soon neon gets bored and flew away. andd then lovie called out, and neon came running but she again didnt react to neon on her cage.
is that okay? she hasnt drink water or eaten anything. i get that she's probably scared but why is she sleeping so much?
I hope what i've written is understandable :p:p
thanks :)

Your new baby does sound sick. You should keep Neon away from her until you can get her checked out and make sure she is okay and nothing is contagious.

Please visit an avian vet and check for bacterial infection (they can do this with poop sample, a fecal gram stain) and anything else that may be wrong. I would do this as soon as possible.

Make sure new baby has food and water available, foods she is used to eating. She needs to eat. If you have any weening pellets or something soft, if she trusts you enough you may be able to get her to eat this if she refuses hard food.

I don't have lovebirds but what you describe does NOT sound like regurgitation it sounds like vomiting. I would recommend a vet visit ASAP.
sorry to be blunt but my first bird started vomiting days after bringing him home.
it was through fast action and a good avian vet the him pulled through.

Your two birds should not be near each other the new bird should be in quarantine. And the bird does sound sick.not to scare you but if the new bird is sick your other may get it to being they were with each other with out quarantineing first. I hope your birds will be ok.

hey peoples :)
so yeah i did catch her eating some corn at night, and shes been drinking a lot of water. her poop looks normal-ish, except for some that were kind of wet.
she was regurgitating again in the morning, but when i came back home she looked okay and she's been eating her seed. idk if she slept during the day cause i wasnt at home. i saw her preening a little and she made tiny squeaks when i was kissing at her ;)
do you think i should have her checked? could it just be that she was scared yesterday? that wont explain the regurgitating though..
thanks for the advice

She should be checked! She should not be anywhere near Neon right now until she is checked. What she is doing is not normal. Drinking excess water is not good either. Please do have her vet checked ASAP.

Yes, please have her checked! A scared bird will be flapping and evasive and high strung - NOT sleepy and unresponsive! Vomiting like that indicates a severe problem. If you can't find a vet that works on birds, then please try to find an Ayurvedic healer. Your new baby needs immediate attention.
