Is my bourke growling at me?

Sometimes, when I get close to her cage or move things around in there she makes a noise thats sort of like a combination of a pigeon coo and a motor boat. I can't get a recording because she stops whenever I try. Is anyone familiar with this noise and know what it means?

Hmm, it's indeed hard to say without a recording.

Sometimes parrots make a growling-type noise when they're upset or startled but I don't have a lot of experience with Bourke's so I can't really say much. Based on your post, however, I could definitely see that lining up; it sounds like she's getting startled and essentially saying, "Hey, quit that!"
