I was wondering if it was ok to feed my Alexandrine dry(uncooked/raw) pasta.

I tried to look it up, but couldn't find anything useful.

And have you fed your birds it before?

My Alexandrine got into a packet and seemed to love it, so I was just wondering if I should be concerned that he ate some?
He started to play with it first, then he decided he should eat it.

Thanks
:)

I make a soft food mix for my parrot and freeze the batch in zip lock bags. I have been making this mix for many years and it is very nutritious. As some of you know my Noble macaw Mihijo is experiencing high cholesteral problems with his health and the fresh food mix I make the vet approved of all the ingredients.

In my fresh mix I include uncooked elbow noodles. I use to cook them but then would become too mushy. I began just putting them in raw because the birds loved to crunch on them giving them that satisfaction of crunching down. It also serves the purpose of soaking up the extra liquid I get from the squash, yams and sweet potatoes. I can say with conviction that raw pasta is okay for the parrot. As with anything in moderation is best. Let me know if you have any questions.

PS my Eclectus breeder also makes her fresh mix with uncooked noodles. This is where I originally got the idea from and have not been cooking the noodles since 2000.

Thank you, I think you pretty much cleared it up for me. :)

(First didn't know what elbow noodles were, but looked it up. It's called macaroni elbows where I live)

I think I might add elbow noodles to his food.
He did enjoy them :)

It's a lot of starch and carbs, so i don't feed them raw pasta that often, but i'll give my fids rotini noodles for treats a few times a week :)

At first I was like what's "rotini noodles"?
Then I looked it up and there called Spiral's where I live.
I have some of those as well, that's the thing he got in to. xD

So do you think it would be better just to give it to him as a treat?

I do :) They get some with spaghetti sauce too when I cook sketti. They're great to give to Lucy right before I leave for class so she's preoccupied haha

Haha how cute.
I think I might give it to him for a treat as well.

Also I'm trying to get him to a healthier diet. (off seeds)
I was going to buy him so pellets but at $40 a kg is too much for me(only one I could find, it was at a pet store, which overcharges for everything.) Any Ideas for a good home made diet for him?

I didn't trust those pellets either, as they were "coloured".

For a healthier option you can give your birds whole wheat pastas. I give them whole wheat spirals and egg noodles, both uncooked they LOVE crunchin' down on them.

I too also feed raw because it is in my custom seed mix that I buy for my alex.
