Jinx - Blue Fronted Amazon hatched 12.06.2012
Im starting to think its impossible to tame a untame amazon he takes nuts from my hands and he will come near me but when ever i try to touch him he goes crazy and trys to bite me don't get me wrong i love the little guy to bits but if i can't tame him then im going to have to let him go and i really dont want to do that :(

I have an untame parrot and I don't even consider getting rid of him, why would you get rid of your bird just because he doesn't want to be handled. Some birds just don't like to be handled, they prefer to just be in your company.

I thought you were besotted with him? and things were going well? Whats changed?

You have had him for less than a Week! It will take alot of patience, time and dedication! Talk to him, Sing to Him.. If he dosen't want to step on your hand, then try getting him to step up onto a stick! this will stop you getting bitten. It could take, Months and Months to gain his trust... Just take it slowly!

You have only had him for a week and your already thinking of giving up? It took months for Sully to completely trust me, and even now he doesn't want to be handled he just likes to sit in the same room as me.
You can't give up after a week, you have to be patient, it can take a year before he completely trusts you.

Nothing has changed its just he flipped out when i went to pet him and he tried to bite me i love this little guy to bits wenz and i really want to have the same relationship with him just like my mam does with her senegal but i dunno i guess im just abit scared that i won't make a good owner

You will make a great owner! So far you have been doing all the right things! You are probably expecting too much, too soon from him! Birds have off days, the same as we do! Patience is a virtue :) It will be worth all your dedication in the end!

Have you thought about Clicker Training as well? Look on Youtube and you will see how to do it properly to get the best results:)

As cdog stated, it can take a year to gain trust. You have to be very patient with them. But trust me, it is worth the wait! Don't give up!

Yeah i started clicker training him the second day i got him and your right i need to have Patience im glad i have you guys to help me out :)

How can you possibly expect him to trust you in one week? You know absolutely nothing about his actions in one weeks time, so how do you expect him to understand and trust you in a week? It can take months to totally gain his trust. One day at a time, he won't just magically adore you in one week. Start small, talk to him sweetly and offer him treats and praise him.

Thats good:) Keep going with the Clicker Training! There are quite a few Members on here that have had great results with this method.
We are always here to help:)

I hope i get the results aswell but like i said and you have said its going to take time but im sure ill get there :)

Just hang in there, it will take a lot of time and patience. The reward will be a forever friend.

It will definitely take time! Kazi's been here for 6 months and we're still learning. It took him many, many weeks to stop trying to bite me several times a day, and I got some really good bites taken out of my hands and arms in the process.

Today he's the sweetest, cuddliest little guy, but I had to move at his pace and work within his comfort zone. If he didn't want me to touch him, I didn't touch him. Even though it about drove me crazy because I wanted to cuddle him and scratch his head from the start.

Parrots require a lot of patience and understanding from us. Birds don't give us that trust too freely, we definitely have to earn it.
