So I sat down one day, eating breakast with the birds. They saw me eating scrambled eggs, then decided they wanted to try some. Knowing that birds are often fed hard-boiled eggs, I thought it would probably be okay; then I remembered that I used butter-flavored nonstick spray. I didn't share, because I didn't know if it was really safe. So, is nonstick spray okay?

And as a side note, ideas for easy treats that I can make for them would be great too.:)

In my lectures on parrot nutrition I learned that cooking for them in coconut oil was good but not so good for us. I think eggs cooked in a little butter once in a while would be fine.

Thanks for the suggestion, I totally forgot about the big jar of coconut oil that I have. I will certainly try it!

The spray oil is perfectly safe for them to eat. However if it is like most then it is in an aerosol can - the aerosol can be VERY dangerous.

Don't use aerosols. But if it's a pump action that's fine.

Olive Oil is all I use for cooking: it's good for them and us.

Thanks but, I'm siding with the coconut oil. I hate the way olive oil tastes with eggs, olive oil just isn't meant for it. I'm not sure if the boys would care, but I might use olive oil when cooking just for them.

You feed bird eggs to your birds? You realise that's cannibalism right?

LOL...they love eggs and if you want a real good laugh...feed them a piece of chicken..they devour it. Leroy's favorite is a chicken bone...he loves that marrow.

When you cook eggs for your babies, you can add the shell too.....mine love eggs...they don't get them all the time but they do enjoy it....another favorite around here is birdie bread.

Technically, only cannibalism if it's the same species. But, yeah, still pretty unnerving. Ruby-bubi loves scrambled eggs, especially if they have just a little cheese. She and Max like chicken, too. Jade's not so much for either of those, but she loves pasta and grains. I always use cooking spray. Read the label, most of them are just atomized vegetable oil; although some, like Pam, have acohol so I never use those brands.

Definitely use olive oil and the amount you need is next to nothing to prevent sticking with eggs :)

I baked some chicken breast with cayenne pepper on it and Loto (zon) was going NUTS to have a piece. So I cut it all up for her and mixed it with veggies and she ate it all up.

She loves her eggs with a bit of apple too, she'll take a bite of the hard boiled egg, and then a bite of the apple and eat it that way.
