Hello Everyone,

Sweet Skittles, my future baby (maybe), is at a pet store. He/She is a 7 month old Blue Mountain Lorikeet. They are asking $799. I've looked online and found babies less expensive. What do you think of this price, is it reasonable?

This is my fear: Skittles and I have bonded. Will another baby bond with me like that? If I don't adopt her will she miss me?

Thank you for all your help.

I've never had a bird before as I never thought they had personality until I met Skittles, now I'm a total fool for birds. I'm excited about being a birdie mommy, but I want to make the right/smart decision for both me and a birdie.

Again, thank you!

Birds almost always have a much higher price when they are in a pet store so the price they are asking is probably inflated to make their profit margin.

How much research have you done on Lorikeets? In the wild their primary diet is fruit and nectar. They have very different nutritional needs from other parrots and in fact cannot have seeds. Their droppings are messy because of the liquid, fruity diet. It’s more of a liquid dropping that can splatter and adhere to where ever it falls.

Here are a couple links I found for you.

Bird Health - Lorikeets

Lories and Lorikeets - Exotic Pets

The store I buy my birds from has them for $699 as you can see here on their web site.

Lories For Sale

I know there are some members here that have Lorikeets. Hopefully they will have more info for you.
