I'm no expert on animal psychology, but found the Alex & Me book a compelling read and convincingly argued. She seems to have had a successful academic career based around her research, even if not everyone agrees with her approach or findings.

I'm a believer due to some of the things I've experienced with my own birds. For example JoJo and Gracie, I sit in my computer room and hear him talk to her so I peek in. "Gracie...Gracie....Come here, I love you." He walks up to her and give her a kiss on her cheek and made a kissing sound. I started laughing so hard watching them do that.
