I WISH someone had told me about this sooner! This website is legit... you can get DNA tests done for only $10 and Psittacosis test, PBFD test, Polyomavirus test done SIGNIFICANTLY CHEAPER than what your avian vet charges you. This company is legit and they operate here out of Miami, FL and you will receive certificates upon testing completion. NEVER again will I be ROBBED $150 from a vet to do the Psittacosis test which they now force to get done every 6 months (it's a cash cow for them). I can get it from this lab company for $20!

I know this website is legit because a well known avian vet uses them and a very well known shelter in my area uses them all the time for the birds and their rescue guy was nice enough to let me know about it. I spoke to him for at least 2 hours about the IRN I rescued.

I will be using this lab from now for sure... the IRN I rescued will get a gram strain from the vet to make sure he doesn't have bacteria... but all other tests are getting done through this company.

Yes I know. This is the vet who charged me $5,100 a couple of years ago when Rascal was almost killed by the woman who babysat him and she also charged me $1,100 for 'Nut when he had head injury and 'Nut ONLY stayed at the clinic overnight!!!!! That clinic requires it every 6 months... it's ridiculous! Otherwise they refuse to allow you to board your bird there... most other places require it once a year in order for you to e allowed to board your bird.

I fund an awesome ne avian vet I'm going to be going to from now on Dr. Susan Clubb

Thanks! Awesome!!!!!! It appears the company you gave link to does more variety of tests? I wonder which tests (other than gram stain) the IRN should get before I bring him to my house... Psittacosis test??? The guy I spoke to who referred me to the IQ Bird testing website knows because he rescues hundreds of birds and rehomes them for the well known shelter in this area

What is an antibiotic is required to clear up whatever ails the ill fid?

My local CAV, whom I've been going to for 30 years,charged me an initial $180 to do testing on the Beebs,then $80 for his re-check and more meds.

Yes avian vets take you to he cleaners... they are as bad as attornies!!

You can very easily get a blood sample to send in to them. The lady I take my tiels to get their nails done about every 2 months can easily give me a blood sample for my birds and then I just mail it to the lab company

It's super easy... sounds scary but it's not. I will just have the woman who files my birds nails on a regular basis help get me the sample. When I notice my tiels nails getting too long/sharp (about every 2 or 3 months) I always take them to get their nails done because it's so dangerous if they get their nail stuck in my shirt and they panic they can easily break their leg

I used sanded perches in the past but am not a fan. Using a dremel to smooth/shorten the nails works great! ... used by a professional of course LOL

EDIT: Bird poo must be fresh so they only work with blood samples. Gram stains you need to do at the vet as the poop must be fresh for the gram stain test.

My avian vet wanted to put 'Nut on antibiotics for a month. I'm not a fan of antibiotics for numerous reasons... antibiotics it not something to take lightly!!! Always get second opinion form another vet. I went to get second opinion the very next day and had test re-done and there was absolutely NOTHING wrong with 'Nut!!!!!!

Sure sometime you need antibiotics but in general it is over prescribed. My boss is foolish enough to take antibiotics EVERY SINGLE TIME he gets a cold... he does not want to understand that colds are caused by VIRUSES not BACTERIA!! Using antibiotics this much wreaks havoc on your gut flora!!

I already got my test kits in the mail free I might add. Pretty cool. Accidentally ordered a swab along with the feather test kit. Just looked up how its used don't thin Timneh would enjoy that one.
