Hey all,
So I am new here! My family and I are extreme animal lovers. For birds we have a goffins cockatoo a green cheeked conure and two little parrotlets ! Now our goffins cockatoo is a snugly sweet girl! We rescued her from a. Horrible situation a while back but the people wee rescued her from had only had her a couple months . She was soberly underweighted and had been plucking terribly ! Her beak and nails were horrible . I had to take her to the vet several times over the span if a few months to cut down her nails because they quicks had grown so long . She is now a well rounded bird . My family and I met a woman the other day that had adopted an umbrella cockatoo and has had her about a year , but can no longer care for her . She is about seven years old and from the visits I've had with her , she is plucking her chest feathers and needs to be on a better diet. So these are things we are going to help with when we get he home tomorrow .I am a stay at home mom but my daughter started kindergarten so now I guess I just stay home!:)So having our goffins I know first hand the time and care a cockatoo needs. And i have the time to give..What I don't know is what taking home a new too will do? I would like for both too's to get along . In an ideal world everything would work out great! But I know that's not always the case. So I could use some advice on how to start the introduction process once quarantine has been done and all vet checks come back good? I'd like some advice on what to do and what not to do in all aspects relating to them! I don't want our goffins to become jealous. And I also want our new too to know her place in our home as well!! So any advice will be greatly appreciated !!

Who was the first bird in the flock? You would want to introduce any new bird to the first flock member, then each down the line. After all introductions are finished, be careful not to give the newcomer any more or any different attention than you do the other two...even though it is so easy to want to make the newbie feel at home.....there is jealousy in birddom.....

Welcome to the forum!

Don't be too harsh with the Goffin's previous owner, the weight part and diet is most likely their fault. But the beak and nails is probably like that when they got her since they've only had her for a few months. Plucking is a hard thing to stop. Even the most well cared for parrots can learn to pluck.

First and foremost, you should practice quarantine before anything else. It does NOT matter where they come from. So no introduction til after the quarantine period! So during that time you can get acquainted to the new parrot alone.

Introducing them is fine but be real careful, they have jealousy issues just like people. The umbrella will win against your other two birds! I've heard too many horror stories about jealous Cockatoos attack one another.

Honestly? IMO, there's no need to "introduce them" at all. I have a GCC and a Goffins and we never did any real kind of introduction with them. The GCC is interested in the Goffins, but she wants nothing to do with him. Given the size difference, that's fine by us. We just give them attention separately, although they are often in the same room.

We are preparing to bring home a Moluccan next month, and after Quarantine is over, we have no intentions of doing any kind of "introduction" between him and the other two. For starters, Sugar (G2) is half the size of the M2. The GCC is half the G2's size, so the M2 could have him for a snack! No thanks. They might be in the same room, but I'll never leave them unsupervised together. Which is how I already do things currently.
