Hi guys,

So I'm getting a new IRN in a week and I already have my Alex. Alex is just about 4 months old and the IRN is a little over a month now. I plan to have them in the same cage eventually. But how do I go about with the introduction process so Alex doesn't hurt the IRN? Will they eventually get along well in the same cage?

Nope. Don't do the same cage thing. They're two very different sizes, and despite the obvious similarities, two very different birds.
It'd just be dangerous. I promise. With training you can have them out together and socialising - but they simply must not be in the same cage. Sorry!

Hi! Thanks for the response! But I saw some pictures online of IRN and Alex in the same cage?

Yeah, I'm not surprised. People see them as similar enough I guess :o But it's not worth the risk. When you have an adult IRN and adult Alex next to each other, they are completely different sized birds. Not only that, but many people here with two of the exact same species of birds and they still house them individually.

My three do get on well in communal spaces, but I attribute that to all three having the ability to fly or in Henry's case glide, and that they have their own retreats. I have no doubt that if I left them together in a confined space, I'd end up with at least one dead and one injured.

You will have two really young birds. It's going to take all your effort to have them stay trained and friendly towards you, and not over bond to each other. And then, it's going to take all of your effort to get through the hormonal period, with them and with you in one piece, and not over bonded to each other ;)

You need a second cage to keep the birds safe, and to have these birds have a successful relationship with you and each other. What kind of cage do you have at the moment?

Be sure you quarantine your new bird for at least 30 days before introducing them. Ideally, they should be placed in separate rooms with a door but on opposite ends of a very large room will do if you don't have another room to use.

Can't wait to see pics!

I have an Alex and an IRN, and while they hang out together during out of cage time, they are never going to get along good enough to share a cage.
My friend has both, and they do share a huge cage, but they have been together since they were quite young.

Beautiful babe :)
Have you got a photo of your cage set up?
What is your Alex's name? How's he going so far? I love hearing about the asiatics, and what people are up to with theirs :)

Hi guys, so far I've tried to introduce the two birds a few times but they don't seem friendly at all and pretty confrontational. I also start panicking the minute one lunges at another and I'm not sure if my energy is causing friction? Does it work that way with birds like dogs? But I'm so scared Alex might hurt Blu severely. I interject with a stick. Pls help!
