Hi guys I am bringing home a new young Macaw (7 months old) in the next month or so. I currently have a strongly bonded pair of Macaws (3.5 yrs old) Ive had over 2 years. Obviously I am keeping them separate for the entirety of their lives as the bonded pair have their own cage and the new addition will be kept in a separate part of the house after quarantine. My question is how can I find out if they will at least co mingle without endangering either birds life? Any suggestions?

Carry the newcomer into the other birds cage area (your current birds should be caged), make the introduction, then take the newcomer to his/her cage, so your existing birds don't think the new-by is getting more attention than they are.....

So I bring him in his playpen? Wont they be jealous because they are in their cage?

Currently I have Kinji in my parents room since they are on vacation, and I bring Rosie to Kenji to meet him. No interaction, I just allow them to see each other and I say "look Rosie, this is your new buddy Kinji."

While there may be some initial jealousy when introducing any new bird, your other birds have each other to vent any lingering frustrations, but I doubt you will have anything to worry about.....

When you handle/interact with your birds, doing so with the existing birds first is best.....

Whenever you have bonded pairs, one of the pair may get jealous, just like humans get jealous if they think someone is trying to move on their partner.....

Thats my fear Im buying him his own playpen so that Mac (The Harlequin) wont see him on his stuff initially in hopes of not triggering anything. I saw the baby today. He is a fourth generation hybrid with mostly yellow and orange on hs body. He plays with the Hyacinth they have as his neighbor through his bars. Hyacinths have massive toes LOL. The babies toes dont react the Hyacinths cage. He is used to being surrounded by other birds which is a plus. Excited!!! How can I post pics so you guys can see what my existing ones look :)

Thanks Sherry :) They love Sundays as they get drenched and some sun. Wish I had more time during the week to take them out. Taking them out consists of taking the sliing doors off so their cage fits through LOL. During th eweek I let them out on their playstand for a few hrs a day :)
