Introducing my small zoo (lots of pictures)

Since I'm still fairly new here, I thought I'd start a thread to introduce you to my other animals. My current non-feathered zoo consists of 2 dogs, 5 cats (3 of which are 3-legged), 1 chinchilla, 1 hamster, 4 crested geckos, 3 mourning geckos, 1 blue tongue skink, 2 corn snakes, 2 ball pythons, and a garter snake!

Thanks for sharing! They are all beautiful. I haven't had a snake since I was a kid, but I used to be really into them. I had a garter snake, too.

Thanks! I think snakes are wonderful creatures. I've always been fascinated by them, but I was only recently able to actually get one. My mom used to hate snakes, but I managed to convince her they aren't so bad. She actually kinda likes them now

Thanks! Haha I love that picture of Emma because she looks like she's smiling for the camera. I took that shot right after she got back from the groomer and she was all excited about her new haircut.

I think snakes have the cutest faces. The ball pythons always look like they're smiling.

The smiling face is part of what I always liked about snakes. They are just very unique all the way around. My mom is terrified of them. I got my snake when a neighbor's dog was killing it. I actually thought it was dead when I got it away from the dog, but it wasn't. So I brought it home and took care of it. My mom didn't want it anywhere near her though, and the snake knew it. She was the only person it would try to strike at. That didn't help, lol!

I used to take it for rides on my bike. It would wrap around the handlebars and it loved it.

Gorgeous snakes! (And the others too!) We have an amelanistic cornsnake named Darwin who's about 8 now. We got him from a breeder when he was a month old. We also have two turtles, an Eastern Box named Rage and a slider named Bob. We also have 3 dogs and 4 cats all rescues save one. My mornings are busy for the first hour around here and then again around 4:30.

But Kazi has managed to terrorize them all (except the turtles, he's actually afraid of them for some reason) and establish his place as King around here. I never thought I'd have to protect the cats from a bird. Never ever.

I had an Eastern Box turtle as well. I got her when I was 10 and had her until into my 30s. My birds actually weren't afraid of her. I think they didn't know what to make of her, lol! They do have kind of a beak. Actually, looking at her I could really understand the theory of reptiles or dinosaurs evolving into birds.

I wonder why I never got another snake as an adult. Obviously mom couldn't object anymore. I guess I was so into my horses and other livestock, and I also used to have 4 large dogs and many cats, and of course always a bird.

Thanks! Poodles are great dogs. Each of the three legged cats has their own unique story.

Gabby was found with her littermates when she was still very young. The mother wasn't around and when Gabby was found, her leg was deformed. We called it her "stump" because she was missing about half of her leg. It caused her so much pain that she would scream if you touched it in the wrong place. We ended up doing x-rays on it and discovered that it was very deformed and the knee cap was misplaced and backwards. We decided that the best option was to have it amputated and I'm so glad we did! After she recovered from her surgery she was so much happier because she wasn't constantly in pain. It's amazing how much friendlier she became after her amputation.

Tootsie was brought into the animal hospital where I work by someone who found her. She was actually hanging from a fence by her foot. She must have been climbing the fence and somehow her foot got caught. As you can imagine, her leg was severely injured so the vets decided to amputate the leg.

We're not really sure how JJ injured his leg. He was found as a kitten (around 10 or 12 weeks old) and his leg was actually sticking out to the side horizontally. The vets think it was an old injury that began to heal on its own, so the only option they really had was to amputate it.

The odd thing is, all 3 of them are actually missing the exact same leg. It's still weird for me to think that I ended up with not one, not two, but THREE three-legged cats, haha. I sometimes wonder what people think when I tell them that, too... I guess I just have a soft spot for "special needs" animals.

How wonderful that they all have a good home with you. I used to work in animal hospitals, and it was always amazing to see how well animals did with an amputated leg. Seeing a dog bound into the room ten days after surgery for suture removal like nothing had happened. Us humans sure wouldn't bounce back that fast!

I have 2 horses that are blind in the same eye. Malone battled with uveitis and eventually lost his sight in one eye. Roxy was running around playing with her mom (she was 4 years old then though, and basically an adult). They were chasing each other and kicking up their heels, and unfortunately mom kicked her right in the eye. It was just a total freak accident. The weird part is that they both look a lot alike as well. People always think they are related, but they aren't.

I have a small zoo too

I have three boston terriers, 5 ferrets, and two birds. Oh, a husband and a kindergartner.. haha There is also a 30 gallon saltwater reed aquarium with 4 fish.

Love the cats and all the rest , but the snakes , ummmm, not so much , sorry. But they do have nice colors , I guess :11:
