Hello all! Does anyone have any experience introducing a new caique into a home with an existing caique?
I have had my WBC for over 3 years now. He will be 4 years old this month, and is a DNA verified male. I had been hoping to find him a companion to keep him company when I am not home. I found a sweet BHC, 6 years old from a local parrot rescue organization. (don't know if its male or female but finding out is the first order of business) I've kept them apart across the room from each other. The BHC seems curious and a little standoffish. (understandable so) My WBC acts like he wants to tear it to pieces. I can't walk any where near the BHC cage without a firm grip on him because he will lunge and try to attack. I put them out on play stands across the room from each other and my WBC will spend all his time trying to get to the other guy.
I know its going to be a long process but I'm afraid I've bitten off more than i can chew. Any advice would be greatly appreciated!

I have 11 caiques. I had to keep the new guys in a separate room for a while to avoid ww3.

But they get along now. The trick is familiarity and loads of personal space. But there are no guarantees. However it looks like you are on the right track in keeping them within each others sight, but separate.

Remember you belong to the WBC, and he sees the newcomer as a threat to his property

I.have Caiques :) I have kept their cages next to each other for awhile .Then I have let one out at a time. They jump on each other's cage and visit through the bars .Eventually I let both out at the same time .Just don't rush the process :)

That all sounds very promising. Thanks for your feedback!! My WBC is slightly less grumpy today but I still don't trust to have them too close just yet.
