I just wanted to update about my new baby. We decided to name her Aleta. We (finally!) picked her up on the 23rd. She is only a few months old, but my jaw nearly hit the floor when the first night I put her to bed and turned out the lights, albeit a little garbled, I heard her say "good night".

Last night we shared some orange pepper and then bonded with a cuddle. It's only been two days and I am totally head over heels in love. (I think my boyfriend is too!)

I tell ya, they say the darnest things.....Years ago when I was hand feeding a 3-4 week old Quaker named Cracker. I always say hello to my babies when I go feed them. I walked in that day and he said Hello, I was in dis-belief. I didn't know babies that young could talk, he couldn't even fly yet and still in pin feathers. I thought I was crazy at first so I proceeded to feed him, then later on I went in to give him his other feeding and he said it again while I was looking at him and I just smiled. :)

It caught me off guard and it was quite a surprise when he said hello. He was a very very smart bird!!!

How cute! I like the name Aleta! Good choice! :D

That is so cool!!!!

Awwww! How sweet...and GORGEOUS tooo...from the looks of your avatar ;)

Congratulations! I know how you feel about being totally head over heels in LOVE!

When we got our Franklin, he was only 3 months old. His cage was in our bedroom...in fact all our birds were...4 cockatiels...anyway he stunned us when he'd crawl into his sleepy hut and whisper to himself....pretty pretty pretty bird, pretty bird...over and over and over and drift off. And our cockatiels would all be grinding their beaks into blissful sleep.

Interestingly enough, Franklin is developing a vocabulary (hello, what'cha doin, him a good boy, Frank the Tank, Frankieeee, Thank you, give kiss)...but NEVER EVER will he say his night time phrase during the day or out loud, we'd have never heard it if it wasn't for him being kept in our bedroom.

In our new house, he's out in the main room with our other birds. He's very content and happy being in the middle of the "bustle" of our home however I do miss hearing him talk himself to sleep every night with our cockatiels grinding their beaks.

Some nights, I turn out the light and wait and listen close before I head off to bed myself...and oh so sweetly, he's softly telling himself he's a pretty pretty pretty bird, pretty bird. :D Talk about melt my heart.....

Aww! That's so cute! I love that he talks himself to sleep. Birdy affirmations. :p

Aleta will talk to herself but not anything English I can make out. I understand they will do a lot of practicing by themselves before they wow you with a new word. I look forward to what she is working on!
