Hi I have a 2 year old blue fronted male amazon and i am buyiny a 3 year old female. How do i introduce the female to the male. Do i put her into a cage off her own and put the two cages beside each other for a while so they get to know each other first without them fighting. Or does any one have any other suggestions.
Thank you.:green:

That was how I found out that my OWA was friendly with my RLA. They started preening each other between the bars of the cage.
Then I opened both doors to let them spend time in neutral territory.

Has your young male started puberty yet? Although a little early, sometime during the next three years he will make that passage. The same question hold true for the female. Since they are more than likely going to hit puberty at different times, it is very likely that whatever their relationship prior to puberty maybe very different after each separately complete their passage.

Since you are with pre consideration getting a female, are your plans to mate them? If you are not, what steps do you plan to take to 'reduce' the likelihood? If you are planning on mating them, have you taken into consideration what knowledge you need to rapidly gain and will your lifestyle support caring for chicks (twenty-four hour days). There has been any number of Threads begging for help with a seriously ill chick. Rarely, if ever, have they come back with any news, good or bad!

If you just want to have a couple of Amazons, you would be much better off have two of the same sex. If you are planning on Breeding! You have a huge amount of information that you need to get right the first time!

So, what are you planning?

Well, I know a little bit about putting amazons together. Of course I would need to know about your ultimate goal before giving you good advice. Under no means introduce one into another's territory. A neutral setting far removed from a usual setting, both should be in unfamiliar surrounding. You would also need to be prepared with towels, gloves, etc. In case things go badly. If either bird is considered a pet then it would be better if you were out of the picture completely. I'll stop and wait for more info before writing a book.

Yes he has already gone through puberty, and we intend to mate them. We have hand reared indian ringneck before. So have a little bit knowledge about the late nights.Any info is great. Thank you.

If your goal is breeding them,, becareful about making pets of them especially at this early an age. I would disagree that a 2 yr old BFA has reached maturity. I put my pairs together as early as I can and they don't usually have fertile clutches until about 10 years of age or older. IMO hens mature sooner than males, it takes the males longer to get it right.
I'm sure your choices are limited down under but try and avoid pet quality zons. Parent raised babies are a much better choice for breeders. I put them in what ever cage you plan to keep them in and in what ever location . Changes can set back breeding. I'd also keep them well away other amazons. Good luck, if you need more help let me know, I've been at it awhile.
