Hey, I was checking out toxin-free baby toys online for Noah when I came across "Bilibo." It's one of those minimalist, new age, creative thinking toys. I was skeptical at first, but now I'm wondering if it would be worth getting for Noah to teach him colours, how to count, improve his balance and dexterity, etc. Here's the reviews: https://www.amazon.com/Kid-O-10320-...e=UTF8&qid=1474773823&sr=8-36&keywords=Bilibo

amazon.com/Kid-O-10320-Bilibo-Game/dp/B0039YNFEW/ref=sr_1_36?ie=UTF8&qid=1474773823&sr=8-36&keywords=Bilibo

Just paste the second one, the first just sends me to amazon.ca

As long as you think it covers all the bases in terms of safety, why not?

Practically I would try out Noah to see if this would be money well spent? Have a look round to see what you have available already to see if he shows any interest in learning his colours LOL? Maybe paint (with some food dye) some wooden bits n pieces of toys that get left over, I have a box full of wooden balls, cubes etc. If he is really up for playtime etc go for it.

I have tried things with Plum before but usually they just get flung out of sight, he then fuffs his disdain at me and then tries to crawl up my leg for a cuddle???? Just trying to be practical and have your wallet in mind. Hope Noah wants to play!

I don't really have anything to teach him colours with :/. Yeah, I know. The fact is, Noah doesn't really play, which bugs me. However, I made him a foraging toy today out of a pill bottle, and he loves it! I also wrapped up some of his dry food today like candies. He really likes his food that way. Ooh, I'll make him some more stuff!

Wait, I guess I got off track... Maybe I'll just get him that die with all the different colour chips.

$55 is alot of dough for baby toys. I would just go to the local Babies r Us and get one of the basic baby toys - rings or spoons or what ever, that come in primary colors to start. That Bilibo toy is cool becasue you could teach him to put the colored buttons into the same colored cups, to teach colors, but maybe it could be done cheaper? I taught Salty his colors by manually helping him put colored rings onto the correct posts. Doing that every night for weeks and finally one night it sunk in , and he started to do himself. That was a big hurdle, both in learning the color, and him understanding that I was asking him to do something specific. Months and months later, he knows now when we have a training session that I will be asking him to do something specific ( play xylophone, put balls into a cup, or what ever) and it only takes a few times of me showing him what I want, and he tries, because he knows I want him to do something. Its not trick thats important, its the willing cooperation between us that is.

Sorry, I should have mentioned that you can buy, in Canada, for $30 five Bilibo minis, and a die thingy that comes with 32 colour chips. And in Canada, that's a good deal (sadly).

Wrench, I love the suggestion of Babies R Us! I've actually been checking out phthalate-, BPA-, and PVC-free baby toys online, and...wait, I already wrote that. Anyways, I'll write down the brands I approve and go on a shopping spree at Babies R Us. I love the high contrast colours and whatnot that they use since babies are almost blind, at least compared to older humans. Black spheres with white spots are awesome! And so much symmetry!

Noah definitely enjoys using his brain for solving problems and performing "tricks." I'm looking forward to teaching him the human names for different colours, and I'm sure he'll really enjoy it too. Noah's so smart and learnt how to say "pretty bird" in about two months, and I didn't even work with him to teach him to say it. I actually bought him a spiralizer today to make some veggie "noodles." Off topic again...

Sorry, but I don't mean to bud in, but not sure if you were aware. From my recollection, when a company says phthalate, BPA and PVC free it may not be free of these chemicals. The Government advises the only parts that are free or limited of these chemicals are the parts that will fit inside the mouth of a child up to three years old. They actually have measurements. Also they stipulate that they can say it is free of something if it has a limited amount of mg/kg. Just like buying real juice, "Made from Real Juice" only means they have to have (I believe the limit is)26% real juice. This is in Canada. Always remember the limits that are stipulated are safe for a child, not necessarily safe for a bird.

To throw even more gasoline on the fire..
BPA, Bisphenol A, is being replaced by, guess, BPS, Bisphenol S! You won't be happy when you look that up!

It doesn't surprise me. One step forward, two steps backwards. It is scary what is out there and our birds are so little and have no way of defending themselves. They leave it up to us to protect them and that is what we have to do. Stick to bird safe wood, leather and stainless steel if at all possible.
