For those bird lovers in Australia. I came across the bargain of a lifetime. https://www.bunnings.com.au/63-x-35cm-seagrass-door-mat_p4490295
For $1.95 AUD it is possible to pick up a rather large sea grass door mat. I called Bunnings today to confirm it’s all natural and it seems good. I will call out today or tomorrow to stock up. Imagine all the toys I could make for my little chewer Charlie.

Anyway, thought I should share the information.

It’s a good day :)

Care to buy some in bulk and mail overseas? lol

Great find, as long as it's safe. I'll have to hunt around for something cheap like that here!

This is available in the states at Old Time Pottery for even less! The door mats and room throws are made of 12 inch squares that are dead easy to pull apart!

Just bought 10 seagrass mats and a tonne of jute.
Made Charlie that bed I promised him :)

I've been buying them mats from bunnings for about 6months now, a birdshop actually told me about them, have had no problems so far so I guess they are safe provided your bird doesn't swallow any of it.I hang them up on the verticle sides of the cage for easy climbing

Aww wow i never knew about this. I dunno if i could use it though as Xander would eat a little of it. Is it dangerous to ingest? I love the hut idea, a great safe alternative to the fabric ones, great idea. You should post that on the bird hut thread x

Darn, seems there aren't any of those near me!

It’s one of the healthier things for a bird to play with and destroy. I admit I feel like a paranoid mother watching over a kid when it comes to my bird eating things and sticking things in his mouth that he shouldn’t... Seagrass is actually very safe as long as it is not treated. Birds are able to break down seagrass in their gizzards unlike ordinary ropes and fabrics out there. Seagrass is the prefect replacement for ropes like cotton and sisal that cause too many problems.
I am in the process of eliminating the cotton covered double swing in my birds cage with a home made seagrass swing.
