So my first chick hatched December 28th and is thriving! My second chick didn't hatch until Jan 1st - I found this one flung out of the nest and dead on January 3rd. Looks like momma wasn't feeding it and was focusing solely on the larger chick. I still have two more eggs yet to hatch, but IF they do, they will be much, MUCH smaller than the chick in the nest already (this chick is very big by now!) I am wondering if I should just pull the last two eggs out now?
My apologies as I do not know the dates when these should hatch by. I know I should wait about 5 days or so after the expected hatch date. I candled them 4 days ago and they were very dark on one end, with a very large air sac on top still, but no movement inside. There was a very solid line between the dark mass and the air sac, so not sure if this is a "bloodline" (correct terminology?) meaning they are dead in shell.
Any and all advice or points to a good website would be greatly appreciated as I hesitate to pull the eggs in case they hatch or if she will let them die, if pulling them now is a good idea instead.
PS- this is my first clutch, I wasn't looking to breed, but my birds had a very different idea in mind despite my best efforts!
