Indoor Parrot Tree?

Anyone ever heard of having an indoor, potted tree for a bird to play around on? My Amazon started flying on her own today, and has developed quite an affinity for my standing wooden coat rack. She loves climbing up there and chewing on it, but I'm concerned about her pooping on my hats and coats, and destroying the piece. It's so cute seeing her up in there playing around like it's a tree though. Does anyone have any suggestions for kinds of trees that are generally available at garden stores for growing indoors, that are also safe for parrots? My parents always had ficus trees in our house growing up, but I'm not sure if those are safe for birdies. I've seen those java tree perches but those are pretty pricey!

I want to do this too, but I haven't done the research yet. There are a lot of lists online about what plants are safe and unsafe. I was thinking of maybe getting some sort of herb bush (rosemary maybe) and training it to grow up like a tree, so it will smell good and be good for the bird.

Yes, agree with Remy. Before buying a live plant consult the lists online to buy a safe one. I know many birds like them. I don't have any because my cat would destroy them.

my birds love their Java tree and its low maintenance.

I want a tree like that! I thought I was going to make one from a Mulberry tree that died, but bugs attacked it.

I bought it off ebay from bird toy kingdom. Yes it's sand in the bottom I use a cat litter scoop to keep it clean everyday.

My birds LOVE their java tree. I was lucky to find mine on Craigslist BRAND NEW for $100. The lady paid $500 for it, didn't end up getting the parrot, and there were no returns on the tree so she put it on Craigslist to get rid of it. Check around for one :)

Also, if you have a live tree that is safe it probably won't be very pretty. Your bird will probably have a blast chewing all of the leaves. I ran into that problem with Stewie. He LOVES to eat my plants.

Also if you go with a real plant, be careful because birds like to eat the dirt & most commercial plants have fertilizers & pesticides & other chemicals in the soil which are deadly to birds.

(I sometimes see those java trees with reduced prices on craigslist, by the way).

Just do a search on ebay for Java tree he has over 100 of them.
Good luck!

Yes Java trees are great my birdie love it , I bought tree before year and he play on it all day :D

Wow, looked at some today on ebay and they are pretty pricey. I really, really want one, but it will have to wait a bit.

I own a similar one and the birds love it from time to time. Id say go for it, if you have the space !
