For the last week Salty has started this wing , i call it a twitch, some times is tail, too. not often at fir but last night he was doing it so much he lost interest in training. I am making an appt with his doc later today. But has anyone an idea what this could be a manifestation of? I am thinking feather mites, but where he would get them from, I dont know. Geri was reading up and it could be the onset of puberty??

His weight is a little low, like 283gr, its been as high as 298gr

Ah hope poor Salty is OK, do let us know how it goes with the AV?

Just twitching, no plucking?

Flight Muscle tremors that manifests Wing flipping /twitching is a possibility for the Wings. What you are saying is that it can and does also manifest with tail shaking /wagging. That would clearly include additional muscles. A general wider spread irritation of the skin and/or muscles can include both regions. In rare cases this can also extend to the legs with tapping and/or stomping.

Lots of stuff can be causing this and your best move was to do what you have already done! Contact your Avian Vet.

"Boats thanks. I worry that this does not stop at night and the poor guys is not getting a good nights sleep. Vet opens today at 10.

how strange. My gut says mites or something like that. Possibly a skin irritation? The vet should shine a bit more light on it. Will be interesting to see what's caused this so suddenly.

Please keep us posted

Your concerns are 100% correct. The loss of restful sleep either or both at night and during the day can bring another issues and this could quickly become worst. Best to fast trip into the AV.

I did just think (not trying to worry) but maybe it's related to his unfortunate spraying mishap? Either could be an irritation from the spray or even his skin got dry/irritated from the sudden influx of baths? Might be worth saying to his vet about it

Made an appt for Wen at 7:pm, but they said if its any worse or he dropped a lot of weight to bring him in tomorrow, even though they are booked up for Tuesday ( they love Salty there). He is worth every penny, to me. If this turns out to be related to that accidental Poop-off spraying, I swear I will put a cilice on for a week.

My first gut instinct says respiratory infection or irritation, or some other inflammation. But I'm sure he'll be perfectly fine because you're very on top of his care.

Hoping the little guy is ok!

Slow down folks! Any reaction to a prior event would have manifested long before now. Although a very remote connection, highly unlikely!

As the Vet stated, any changes get him in!

Keep all his normal activities in place, let him choice whether he wants to or not! And, the hardest of all, do not let you emotions flow, they tie so tightly into us and your being upset will only upset him!

Loving warm Feather Hugs for all of you!

Our BFA used to get episodes like that...I would say, only a handful of times in the ten years I knew him. He'd flip his wings, shake the tail, and do it most of the night and then it would be over. If there was a cause, it wasn't obvious. Maybe could have been pinfeathers? I wondered if he had an allergy to some food that he rarely ate. He ate whatever we did, mostly veggies. Fruits. Some pesticide residue, maybe? It's all just speculation on my part. Something would bug him for a day and then he was better for a long time. I hope Salty is fine by now, too.

Just returned from our vet, and Salty is fine. No mites, breathing good,, no weight change, etc. Dr Davis took a long time examining him. Turns out he has lots of little new blood feathers coming in on the underside on his wings, and they are real sensitive, so the twitching is Salty trying to settle in these new feathers. Once she asked about them , I remembered that yes, he has been shedding a fair number of feathers. So he got a clean bill of health, and I just got the bill. As I said, worth every penny to know he is OK.

Aw, the poor boy's feathers are sore! Pin feathers on the head are one thing, but under the wings? Rumi, my yellow girl with neurological problems, ALWAYS ends up damaging her poor flight feathers, so every time she starts growing new ones, she ends up busting them open and gets blood on her poor wings. Simon, in the brief time that I had him, would start bleeding from his wings from the slightest bump. Simon was yellow too. Maybe it's best not to get yellow colour mutation budgies (at least when it comes to deformed feathers, excessive bleeding, neurological problems, and organ failure).

Man, I always get off topic. I hope you guys know I'm not trying to make everything about me and my birds!

Anyways, I hope his blood feathers finish developing soon so he can finally get those sheaths off!

That's is good it is only an itchy new coat that bothers young Salty. Off to the shower you go!
