As many of you know I attempted to rescue an abandoned and injured ring neck parrot that I discovered through this forum. Long story short, she had several leg breaks that had healed and fused incorrectly. She was in severe pain for at least three weeks. We tried to save her, but she did not survive surgery. This is obviously devastating, but even more frustrating is the reality that she would not have required surgery, and her injuries would not have been fatal had she seen a vet right away. We are starting a new charity in memory of Meia for people who care for their animals but cannot afford veterinary treatments. Through the Birdline rescue we will be providing assistance to people who have emergency situations and cannot afford treatment. We will be ensuring that people genuinely cannot afford the treatment, and this will not be available to hoarders or breeders who make a conscious decision to take on more responsibility than they can handle. This is separate from Birdline, and we hope will help prevent more birds from ending up in Meia's situation. At this time I would like to thank this community from the very bottom of my heart for your kind thoughts and donations during Meia's time of need. I have given those who donated the option of having their funds returned since she did not survive, and the financial need was not as great as expected. Alternatively however, Birdline rescue has offered to defer any funds gathered for Meia to our new initiative. We will obviously also be accepted new donations for this new project. More information will be forthcoming as this gets underway.

We all very much appreciate the work you do, the time, and the emotional investment in these bird, and I'm sure this new venture of yours will save many lives. :)

There is purpose to every life. Meia's life and it's tragedy has resulted in this wonderful thing you are doing. And, it has served to bring togther people that want to and will help birds. What a great memorial to Meia.

Thanks for all you are doing. Please keep my donation for the new fund.
