How many place their bird cages in front of a window? I would think it would freak out the bird(s) to watch out front? Also, being in front of a window would not work maybe for folks that have cold winters, because the windows get cold/frozen and it's always colder near the window in winter?
I used to have my sun in front of our living room window but moved him away from it because of the winter factor and also because I think it just freaks him out to see the cars/trucks go by or other outdoor activity.

So, what do you think? Window birds or not? and why?

I have kiwi in front of our windows, but we have thick blinds, and the window faces the backyard. She loves the sunlight and looking outside. Sometimes when she's out of her cage, she'll perch on her seed catcher, in between the blinds and just look out the window. We also have radiant floor heat, so in winter there is about a foot radius around the house that doesn't have snow. We have a thick blanket or two to wrap around her cage during the super cold days and a back up spot in the living room in case it gets really bad

However if we didn't have those situations, I don't know if I'd feel as comfy letting her stay by the window during winter months.

I have them 'facing' the window, but on the opposite side of the room, so they get the light full throttle still, but arn't directly next to the window for chills/traffic.

Merlin likes being right by the window though, but yeah - that's what I'd do :)

My birds don't live in cages and they perch on the windows of their own accord so I would say in front of the window is best.

Several of my birds' cages are on each side of our west facing window. The others are away from it, but still receive a ray of sunlight into their cages. All of my birds bask in the late sunlight for about 20 minutes every day. The ones closest to the window have part of their cage exposed to the sunlight, and there's ample area inside where they can retreat if they want to get out of the sun.

My little pineapple GCC is absolutely adorable when a ray of sun graces his cage. He goes over to to the ray, closes his eyes, and yawns and yawns, while turning his head from side to side. He has this blissful look of cuteness!

In my current situation, I have no way but for the birds to be able to see out the window where kids and cars do go by. Usually, it's not an issue. It's a small-ish room with only one window facing north, west wall is the closet/door, which leaves the south and east walls for cages. Sometimes, something outside does freak them out, but generally speaking they are fine with things going on outside.

I have kept cages in front of windows before, however it was only partially in front of the window, not fully... and at times, I'd even leave the windows open for fresh air!
