So between an African Grey and a Blue and Gold Macaw which would you think would imitate a crying baby first?

If you think African Grey we thought the same thing.....

Ell (formerly Elvis) has started to teach herself to cry like a baby. our little guy gets fussy in the evening and we're always sitting in the living room where the birds are. it first started that when Charlie (our new born) would start crying Ell would yell to try and get our attention at the same time (since when the baby cries he gets attention). Well since yelling didnt work last night she started to imitate his crying sound.. For a macaw she actually did a good job. but thankfully she is not as skilled as Ziggy our grey is... though i'm sure it'll come some day since she did pick up our black lab's howl (which is hilarious to hear a bird howling)

Just wanted to share our amusement :blue1:

That's hilarious!! Would love to hear it, if you could manage to record Ell. :D I also would have guessed the AG would have been the first to imitate your baby. CONGRATS on your Charlie!!! :)

Thank you for sharing, Chris! How amusing, makes for interesting conversations in the evening.

Congratulations and best wishes to you and Baby Charlie!

LOL. The things they pick up:rolleyes: And for him to "get" that the crying got attention whereas his screeching did not. What a smart bird you have there! Just think, long after your kids are well out of the crying stage, you'll still have the 'joys' of hearing a crying baby thanks to your wonderful fids:D:D:D (they NEVER forget:52:).

That's actually kind of sweet, when you think about it. Even in 10-20+ years, you may still get to be reminded of your child when he was actually a baby, because bird is mimicing your own babies cry. It's sort of sweet, in an annoying way.

Thank you all, all of our friends have agreed the poor kid was born into the zoo (3 large dogs 2 birds and a lot of plants including bananas), but like some pointed out he'll get to grow around animals a lot of people dont get to.

on a funny note since the birds are loud and have been loud through the whole pregnancy the kid can sleep through anything.

the attached pic is Ell assiting in child watching

How sweet! The perfect nanny!

Our quaker mimics a crying baby, she didn't learn it in our home, but she's taught our cockatoo to cry with her. It really is cute and they never forget!
