Pebbles - Female Eclectus Parrot
So this last few months I have noticed that Pebbles is coming out of her shell more, she is a really sweet girl, but she has always struggled with confidence when it comes to flying or moving from one room into another. She has a fascination with some dark tiles in our bathroom (she can see a dark reflection), and she started flying from her cage into the bathroom, this was a big step for her. I have been gradually nurturing this, getting her to fly to us in another room instead of going to get her (treats have helped as she is very food motivated). As we all know there generally can't be a positive without a negative and today was a good example.
So today during preparing breakfast for Gizmo and Pebbles I got an unexpected knock at the door. Gizmo and Pebbles were chilling out on top of the cages, so instead of putting them back I simply closed the door off to that area and answered the door. So I got chatting and it was probably 10 minutes before I got back.
Now where was I, oh that's right, I was just in the process of grabbing a Kiwi fruit when I heard the knock.
That's funny.....I don't remember mashing up a Kiwi fruit on the table and all over the arm of the chair, I wonder who could have done that.
Let's see we have two suspects:
* Gizmo who is very capable and confident at flying down to the table or arm of the chair, but although he likes food, generally he is willing to wait for food
* Pebbles who is crazy about food, everything is either food or something to chew up, but is not confident about flying around, and would not consider leaving the safety of her cage and go down to the table by herself.
Let's look at the suspects:
It's hard to deny when the evidence is still on your beak. So I would say my attempts at getting Pebbles to feel confident about exploring her environment is paying off. Yay Pebbles had the confidence to go down to the table by herself....or should I say, Oh no, Pebbles now has the confidence to go down to the table by herself (certainly a good news bad news scenario).
Cheers,
Cameron
