I got my baby Charlie about two weeks ago from a breeder and he was about 8 weeks at the time. When I took him home he hid his head in the crook of my arm and was quite chilled. Then it went south really fast. I have quite a loud voice but when I speak to him I try to be softer. He's still on a diet of Aviplus which I made a bit less mushy and give to him in a bowl. He eats it all but that's not the issue. He's terribly skittish of me and any movement around him maked him freak out. I speak to him wherever I'm around. I try to keep the cage clean but it's an impossible mission as whenever I try to get near (also when I put his food in there) he starts hissing and squawking and flapping like there's hellfire in his bum. When I pass by the cage or stand near him he scurries into a corner and tries to hide under the newspapers. I have lost my patience once while trying to clean the cage but I never hurt my baby. I don't like seeing him like this and I want him to at least let me clean the cage in peace. I'll try at a later stage to pet him and all that. Can anyone please help?

Remember, he's just a baby. You know you just want to clean his cage, but he has no idea what the giant has come to do...... Everything's new and everything's scary. You need to be very patient and let him get to know you and learn that you are nice and his home is nice and he doesn't need to be afraid. It takes time.

Charlie is very young.... so was Pippin when I got him. What I did was the reverse of what you are trying...I held him and cuddled him a lot held him right up against me and tucked hm into my neck/ hair until he calmed down. I also hand fed him a lot rather than just using a dish so he came to associate me with food. I figured the cage cleaning could wait and when I cleaned it he was NOT anywhere near it (I bought a smaller cage for him to go into when I cleaned the cage so he was not stressed by that). Be patient and he'll come around, but try to keep him away while you're cleaning the cage. Our other ringneck, Tiki, is almost 4, and still does NOT want to be anywhere near when I am cage cleaning..she just flies away.

same for my IRN here he scare from me even when i give him food :(

I just read your Dec. 2014 message about your Charlie acting up when cleaning the cage. Just wondering what the situation is with Charlie now? Have things changed any for the better? My Bleu, a little over a year old, is still pretty skittish about cage cleaning. As a matter of fact he goes beserk when I start to clean his cage. So I just let him out and he perches and watches from a distance and with that he seems fine. So I would be really interested in knowing how you have make out? I have had IRN'S before and they all possess a certain amount of skittishness and it can try your patience. But then that's the answer to it...patience. So would you be kind enough to let me know how it is with Charlie now?
Roary.
