We have a small ant and cockroach problem in my house, so we are getting an exterminator to spray pesticides inside and around the borders of the house. We have to stay outside for 4 1/2 hours until the fumes are completely gone. I'm just not really sure what to do with Bella, Zora, and Oliver. I could keep them outside in their cages, but in the afternoon it gets to 95-105*. We have nowhere else to keep them, nobody I know lives in my area. It's way too hot to keep them outside... We do have a very nice family owned bird shop that does boarding by the hour... I'm really out of options. Any help would be appreciated! Oh yes, the extermination will happen in around 7-10 days from now.
P.S. I have no clue what to do with my cat, Cookie. Is the pesticide spray stuff bad for her? They probably are but just wanted to ask. Better safe than sorry!

we live florida and have a pest company come every three months. we have three birds two small dogs and twoo sugar gliders and they use pet freindly sprays that are safe. outside you just have to wait for it to dry on both the back and front lannis and then its safe for the dogs . tell your people that you have birds and a cat and if they can't help you try another company. alison and sweetie pie:D

Thank you for all your help! MrsWharfRat and WharfRat, I am going to try these ideas, thank you! I also heard that cornmeal kills ants. They eat it, it expands in their stomachs, and it kills them. Has anyone ever heard of this? It seems odd.

We use natural ways to rid bugs inside the house but we also spray around the perimeters on the outside. We use sticky traps, vinegar water, herbs, etc. Plus sanitize everything. Those roach motel really do work if you just don't keep any food in the house for like a month. They will eat the bait and doe. Had the issue with the condo we were living at before. It took me a month to wipe out the whole population. That place was infested, a girl roommate brought them in....she was not the tidiest person in the world. I kicked her out and went to war with the roaches...lol...

Oh spiritbird, you posted as I was writing. :) I really want to try the boric acid now. And the problem has been growing. Just right now I saw a little line of ants in my room, and at night I found 4 cockroaches. *shudder* I'm really scared that they'll be marching up my fids cages. I've been checking every like 5 seconds for an ant or roach in a food bowl or on a toy, but so far, nothing.

That is where they will head next. With our feathered friends, all things end up at the bottom of the cage. May want to think about cleaning it more often then you already do until you get rid of the insects. :)

I have also heard about the cornmeal, would never hurt to try it :)

I have a small room where I am seeing a few ants, the carpenter ants, not good. Coming in around a window. I am planning to use Boric acid. You can put 1/8" holes in the sheetrock if necessary and use an applicator. It is a powder....planning to get some tomorrow. I think we can just create an opening around the window in the sheetrock and poof it thru. No toxic fumes from that.

Boric Acid is still poisonous! I was gonna ise ot in the yard to kill fleas then read all the bad stuffs about using it then I retracted from using it.

I tried the corn meal method and it failed as they wouldn't touch the stuff, unless I'm using the wrong kind?? The chalk works but they got smart and started moving around bypassing it or eventually walk over the lines.
