Amy a Blue Front 'Zon
Jonesy a Goffins 'Too who had to be rehomed :-(

And a Normal Grey Cockatiel named BB who came home with me on 5/20/2016.
...with BB. He is just about thru with his first molt. I am still finding some "fluff" by his house, but his face/head/hat are really yellow.

My concern is his arms. It seems like he starts getting his long sleeves, then they fall out. His right arm sleeve is pretty long, but now its "hanging" looking like its going fall out of him any minute. His left arm still has short sleeves on.

He is 9 months old now, I'd think by now he should be fully flighted and be willing to take on the world.

I'll try and get a couple pictures today.

also thinking of making an appointment to see his doc, he needs his fingernails trimmed anywho.

Aww, poor Beebs. Hope he's not having plumage issues. Going to see the vet sounds like a really great idea.

I'm not sure if I had mentioned it, but Nacho was clipped before I ever saw him at the bird shop, and after I paid the store for him, they trimmed his nails for free. Now I wish they hadn't done that! With everything trimmed like that poor Nacho bird not only lost his ability to fly (away), but he can't hold onto my shirt all that well either! He fell off me a couple times and landed fairly hard on the carpet. Made for a sad daddy, knowing the Nacho birdy was purposely disabled.

I wouldn't tell you you should or shouldn't, but unless Beeb's nails are causing you serious pain or damage you might give a second thought about the nail trim.

Ya, I hear you on that point Wade..since Beebs is just a little guy, even with pointy little nails that he has,he really doesn't cause me too much discomfort, like Amy does.

When Amy and I went to the birdie shop the other day,she got a grooming, and on the way home <she pearches on the headrest of my car>
she couldn't grip the rest..its leather, and more than once she lost her grip..waving her arms frantically. At least she slid forward and landed on the seat, and not backwards, where she would have crashed to the floor.

Not much to offer as far as wings/moult, but...
With the approval of my avian vet, I keep the Rbird's nails long-ish...otherwise he just can't hang on to perches, especially when traveling... he has small feet that have to steady a lonnnnnng, 250-gram body. Maybe Amy needs to have a bit more length for some reason.

The Rbird's skinny pink cockatiel feet...

Awwww the poor Nacho Dude :( .

The other night,Beebs was on my shoulder, watching you-tube stuff, and on one of the video's the volumn was low,so I turned it up a little. Well, when the next video came on,it had normal volumn, but I forgot to turn my speakers back down.
When the vid started,it was BLAREING!! Scared little BB out of his clothes!
He jumped a mile off my shoulder, waving like a mad man,and actually FLEW a good 10 feet. I think he surprised even himself :grey: :D.

BB should indeed be fully flighted by now, but catch me up. Was he clipped before? If so, how long ago? And yes, pics would definitely be good.

As for the nails, I rarely ever have to clip since strategically placing a concrete pedi-perch by each bird's food dish. They dance around so much while waiting to eat that the nails file themselves. And on the once every year or two (for Maya. Haven't had to clip Mr. Jay's yet) that I do have to have nails clipped, I have the vet only clip off the very tips. The concrete perch does the rest.

As of today..BB as been with me for five months. He was 4.5 months old when I got him <still in his baby clothes> and he was groomed prior to me taking him home.

I constantly have to have my tiels nails trimmed about every 2 months (filed down short with a dremel) otherwise it's so incredibly dangerous because their nails are so sharp it always gets stuck on my shirt and they freak out.. my tiel nearly broke his leg like this more than once.... those sand paper perches don't do diddley squat... at least in my experience they have been ineffective and they certainly don't shorten the nails enough.

I have their nails trimmed very short... they only have difficulties gripping for less than 2 weeks... but after that it's all good :)

I know people who have trimmed wings on tiels and it took a solid year before their tiel could fly again... BB grows very long flight feathers and then they just fall out?

It can take a few months well for flights to grow back in, so it might not be an issue. But considering that you said flights have grown in and fallen back out, I think taking him into the vet would be a very good idea. Just in case.

Think I'll call his doc tomorrow and make an appointment.
