RIP Constantine: Jenday Conure
Just curious as to if any of you guys know why Con might be doing this.

He sits on the top of his cage, hunkers down then flaps his wings like no other for a few spurts then goes on about his day. His does this several times a night. I've noticed he's been a tab more fluttery since he's started this. It's cute but I'm worried. Thanks!

Sounds like he is exercising his wings. My Rosa does that. She came to me clipped but I'm letting her feathers grow out for the time being depending on future behavior. Now that she is able to get some lift she seems to be flapping occasionally to get the muscles back into condition. I've seen other birds that do something similar. I had a Senegal that would hang on to her perch tight and just go all out. Her body would be leaning and twisting about but she would not take off. When done, she would flip her wings a couple of time then go about preening. Both the Senegal and Rosa seemed quite satisfied when done.

This sounds like a normal birdy exercise. I've especially seen baby birds do it a lot when they are fledgelings.

Sometimes Puck will grab on to one of his toys that's on a chain, and flap around like a crazy bird. The first time he did it, I thought his foot was stuck because of how erractic it appeared, but he's done it a million times since then, and seems to be having fun.

Max does that... He'll fly to the highest point in the kitchen, where I have a plastic thingo with tools in it... He'll land and skid to a halt... then he'll flab his wings and basically skid around the whole area of the box... Always reminds me of when I was skating as a kid... lol

My Nanday does it first thing when I let her out of her cage. Only she holds onto my finger when she does it, which is a tad painful. She had to hold on tightly in order not to take off, lol! Good thing she keeps her nails short. Yes, the bird is exercising it's wings.

I have to warn other people when they visit and I take her out, because it seems to startle them.

Halo does this sometimes when he's just wandering about. He slides around on the bench or the bed and bumps into things gently because he forgets to hold onto things though. Then he puts his wings back and honks to himself and carrys on like nothing happened.

Good to hear it's just excersize. :D

Sometimes she goes to the bottom of her cage, hangs onto the grate and does it. I think she trusts my finger as a good place to hold onto rather than her perches. She can wrap her toes very tightly around my finger. And she may also realize that if she takes off while doing it she has the whole room to fly in, which she doesn't in her cage.

My conure did that when she was younger. She hasn't really done it lately.

That's probably because she figured out how to fly really well and some times takes off like a rocket ship, fly's around into every room, then fly's back to her cage huffing and puffing.

It's pretty fun to watch, she's so fast.

I'd say it's normal.

Pyro does this. He goes completely crazy with the wing flapping. I've video taped it before and he flaps his wings so fast they cant be seen. He even did this before I had his wings clipped.

My Amazons do that all the time, they like to sit on the top of thier playgym and flap like crazy and they are flighted. They don't go anywhere they just like to stretch them out. They also seem to want to do it whenever its super quiet in the room and scare the bajeeber out of me! lol

My amazon seems to flap like crazy as a greeting to me. I walk through the door and he starts flapping. It has scared me, lol!
