Iggy- YCA
So I've decided that I need to have this procedure done, and e-mailed the doctor who is in charge of Iggy's case. I asked if he would be the one performing the procedure and also if I could be present for it...

No, he will be "supervising" the procedure while a resident who I DO NOT like will be actually doing it (which means that the real doctor will tell me he is supervising while he's really somewhere else altogether, with his pager on)...The resident is the one who told me it would "be fun"

Also, I am not allowed to be present, as owners should not be there and it is a tense situation. Mind you, this is after this doctor told me it was a simple procedure, and was like "playing a video game". I don't know about anyone else here, but video games do not = tense situations.

I guess I could go somewhere else, but if you think about it, Tufts is where people go to get good care for their animals. I guess I'm just very frustrated at this point and feel like this is something that needs to be done, regardless of whether or not I want it to be. I haven't scheduled it yet, but I'll let you guys know when I do.

Oh wow. I'm so sorry they won't let you be there for it. I'm sure it would ease your mind a lot if you could see what was going on.

I wouldn't do it, not with that vet I mean... and YES you can cay you would rather have the vet do it than some one learn on him, that is your right as a paying customer.

I can post up all the bird vets in your area if you would like... I have a list of them at home.... from that magazine that cost me an arm and a leg to tell me peanuts were bad LOL

Unfortunately, this is a "teaching hospital" and on top of that I'm a student...so by doing it here, I save 40% (I know not important when it's my bird's well being) and in effect, lose any say I have in the matter.

I think someone on here mentioned Angell being really good with birds awhile back, maybe I could look into it there...I guess I really should trust them here, and maybe I will end up doing so...it would probably be just as hard for me to bring him somewhere that I didn't know the doctors or hospital at all. Either way, I'm going to be nervous about it I suppose.

well what ever you deside, I wish you luck....
maybe you should look into an exorcist while you are at it :p LOL

Basically when they stick a camera into an animal through an orifice or an incision...In Iggy's case, they want to see his lungs especially, and take samples from them, so they would make an incision in his side and put the camera in there...I think that's technically called laproscopy.

OMG, as a teaching hospital I would have thought they would have a room somewhere where other residents could watch, (only guessing here) if that was the case could you not watch from there. I can understand why they wouldn't want us owners in the room with them but I think a little compassion would go a long way. :(

I'm sure that Iggy is gonna do just fine, and he can always give them such a bite when he feels a bit better for putting you though this.

I guess these vets do these things on many animals, so to them I'm sure it is as simple as ABC, but its not very often that we as parronts go through it. Give Iggy big Scritches from us all here, we'll be thinking about him.

If you could touch him....maybe instead you could use one of those old school backscratchers...they're about 2 feet long, so you would probably be safe ;)

Yeah didn't give that a thought, well tell him we are very proud of him. :D :D

Yea...no big scritches for this boy...maybe I'll just yell encouraging things from across the room...I was just putting him to bed and he first flew off of his stand at me (flight feathers are getting a bit too long I think) and then ran around after me and bit my foot...I'm presently bleeding...I would need a 15 foot backscratcher to be safe at this point.

I don't know how you guys do it, I hear you all talking about how bad your birds were when you first got them...how do you help a parrot you can't touch without bleeding?

Anyway, I'm setting up the appointment tomorrow, I'll let you know the date when I do...I hope they find something fixable and that will be the reason for this behavior...otherwise I'm at a complete loss. :(

Thanks for the well wishes.

*putting down the gloves* I hope that something comes out of this ... hopefully there are more answers than more dead ends ... I mean really, for your own sanity there has to be something else going on ... or it could be *picking up the gloves again* that Iggy just doesn't like you ... :p *nah, nah,* :D:18:

Haha, thanks Tex. I just talked to my friend for awhile (she doesn't know much about birds, but it's good to have other perspectives always), and I realized that if nothing comes out of this procedure, I need to devote the summer to spending time with the monster and seeing if we can make any improvements...if I can't do it, again, I'm faced with finding another home...but you guys are all so inspirational with being real bird people and working on your birds behavior...I think I'm a cat person in disguise as a bird person...maybe that's my problem.

And don't worry Tex, if Iggy doesn't like me, I'm sure he'll love you very much...good thing you told me whereabouts you live...it'll be easier to leave him in his cage in your yard. :18:

After a week with me, he'd be a new bird ...

Yeah his head will be three times its size and he would of plucked out all his feather from the lack of health mac & cheese

Minzer-
know what I am starting to notice though maybe your showing too much fear  can't say I blame you from running in fear... maybe you should of drop kicked him when he bit you feet..... J/K!!!! :D
anyways maybe you should stand your ground (wearing shoes) and see what happens, because maybe he is sencing that your getting all stressed about it, and we all know feelings are a sign of weekness to animals.
And deff look into the behavorists I posted up... maybe the have a clue on why your bird is the son of saintian :16:

Yea, I would have to drop him off in NH with about 50 boxes of Kraft, just to be safe!

And yes, I am very afraid of him...he wants to eat me. And I should stand there, but then he'll climb me and find something else to bite...and sneakers would have been better than the fluffy kitty slippers I was wearing...not much protection there.

If the endoscopy reveals nothing, the only choice other than working with him myself is to look into a behaviorist...that'll definitely be a possibility...it would be so hard to give him up if I can't help him.

Hahaha, well you want me to stand there and not have him climb me...that's challenging...cuz if I push him away I get bit...if he stands on my foot I get bit...I WAS pushing him away with my kitty-slipper laden foot last night when I got bit...lol, I definitely need a pair of those stylish kicks you attached. So now I'm going to walk around my house with those, an oven mitt, a "buddy perch", and an assortment of athletic equipment...

well with that outfit you might as well add a foot ball helmet... wouldn't want him to go for the face

Also while running from Iggy very quickly you need a camera to catch that outfit, we all want to see it. :D

Now it could be the case that as he knows your scared of him (and anyone would be) he will do it even more, but I think there must be something going on with him. Even if it is a case of getting a behaviourist in. Wait and see what this treatment shows, if anything, then take it from there. We are all wishing him luck and love (from a distance) It is such a shame, you should be enjoying him and not made to feel scared of him. Just remember we are all here for you, no matter what. :D
