for some bird food and new toys and while I was there, I always like visiting with the birds. They didn't have too many this time. But there were the two cutest peach faced lovebirds. I stayed there and chatted with them and watched them for a good 30 minutes until my wife dragged me out of the store almost kicking and screaming, I felt like a 5 year old hahahahahaha. I was surprised that they had the lovebirds and the Peach face variety are my favorite and Lovebirds are one of my top 5 birds. I could sit there and listen and watch them for hours. They are just so blasted cute and at $49.00, I wanted to bring them home:) This is one of the reasons I don't do pet shops very often.

Awww, those lovebirds would be such a great addition to your flock:)

that is exactly how I ended up with a budgie... We stopped at a petstore to get some stuff for other birds and Cam was there in a group, just so tiny and was so interested in what we were doing. Went back to say goodbye before we left the store.... this was the 5-1/2 hour drive down to pickup Victoria's Loki at Xmas time. We left the store, went to get Loki and both my husband and daughter said, if you want him, we can go back, so we make a pit stop back at the store and then drove home with TWO birds 5-1/2 hours.

Note... that spur of the moment addition may turn out to be the noisiest little bugger that ever lived!!! He is still a really small budgie and still cute as a button. But boy does he go on and on and on :) I joke he is noisier then the cockatoos and sun combined!! No regrests, just like to whine about him :)

You never know, if you happen to pop in again because you forgot something this morning.... didn't you mention you needed another rope perch :) Never realized they were in the bag when you left too... never know, your wife might buy it!!!

If not try stomping your feet and yelling, but moooooooooooooom...

Mike: get the Lovebirds. You won't be sorry! Lovies are so easy to look after and so funny and entertaining. We used to joke it was more fun sitting around the cage watching the Lovies perform than it was watching TV. (AFAIC, it still is!)

Get the Lovies. I know it's none of my business and I shouldn't try to influence you, but just get them. Peachfaces are the prettiest, IMHO, and this pair loves you already. Get them.

'kay? :D

Oh GO ON!! If you don't get them they'll either end up in the pet shop forever, unsold and unloved, or be bought by some idiot who thinks they "look pretty" and live a short and miserable life never having even been offered a fresh vegetable...

So sad... :(

It could almost be considered a 'mercy' purchase...*:21:

Go on...., I have a thousand more excuses if you need :D

I too understand "the feeling". Just the other day I stopped in whatever petstore it is that's by my house to grab something for Kiwi, and there it was- the cutest yellow budgie dancing in a hanging coconut toy, just calling my name :D. So naturally I couldn't walk down the bird aisle without seeing all the adorable little house-shape cages and cutesy toys they make for budgies that are a million times cuter than the ones for the big boys too. I sat there in the aisle for about 30 minutes convincing myself I couldn't bring that bird home. The amount of self restraint I had to exercise just to get the cuttlebones for Kiwi......
I liked the bird store back in Arizona- they didn't sell birds, just bird accessories. So the only birds in the store were either being boarded or belonged to the owners, so no chance of falling in love and taking them home......

I also have the same issue in the reptile section....all those baby leopard geckos (Leo is so very old now) and baby bearded dragons (I really miss Tiffany)...and oh, does Mr. Newt need a friend (and a bigger/fancier tank)? I don't even go over there anymore unless I HAVE to.... I'll ask an associate to get me crickets while standing over in the dog section or something (at least there's no temptation there, dogs and cats do little for me).

I agree with Lucy. If you don't get them, WHO KNOWS who might, and they will never be as good a parent as you!

My Knuckles narrowly escaped being sent (from NY) to SINGAPORE!!! I walked in, and I HAD to have her. The man who owns the store said he was so much happier knowing that she was going to be mine, than getting shipped off to the other side of the world

I would get them...... :)

They were asking you to take them home with you! <<<GO BACK!>>>

Mike, you sound just like me. :) Being single, I have no wife to drag me out of the store, so I just have to wait 'til they throw me out. ;) Last time I went to one local pet store to buy food for Ralph, I was held captive by a White-bellied Caique. He was enjoying getting scritches and grabbed onto my finger with one foot and wouldn't let go-- guess he didn't want me to leave. Unfortunately, his $1000 price isn't as affordable (to me anyhow) as those $49 lovebirds.

I loved that story!
My budgies weren't planned either. In fact I'd never wanted a Budgie before. I went looking at the store, and saw how cute they were... Then one really caught my eye with the most gorgeous coloration. It was Twigs. Goldenface type 2 recessive pied cobalt. Bright yellow, light yellow, deep turquoise tummy.
I told my husband I HAD TO have him, so we went to the store to get him, and he picked out one also. He chose Pix, mostly white with cute snowy owl markings :)
Yeah and no kidding they're NOISY!! I love mine too, but like you I whine about it! Cam must be a male? Males are noisy. LOUD little buggers for their size too.

C'mon Mike. Just go back to the store. You know you want one :)

I love the Peachfaced too, they always have really adorable faces.

Yep Cam is a boy!! I too never wanted budgies, but cam just stole my heart. Hr is semi tame, steps up sometimes and if I need I can just pick him up, no bites. But hes so flighty, he won't just hang out. But he talks up a storm to me and answers to his name.... in budgie babble!!

Funny to hear you ended up with little noise maker same way!!
