For those of you that don't know the history on Vern. I had rescued her when she was about 21yrs old from a guy that really loved her but just didn't seem to understand what she needed. She had no toys and was plucked.

I had her for about 2 years and when I had her DNA'ed she was actually a female and had spent all this time thought to be a male.

She never really responded well to me but I did convert her to a toy junky.

When she met my friend Sue she absolutely loved her from the moment she saw her. So I decided to let Sue take her and see how she would do. So we did a series of visits to Sue's house over about 6 weeks time so the move would be less traumatic on her and it seemed to be a very easy transition for Vern.

Well it's been about 5 months and Vern has since started to lay eggs and has bloomed into a very happy and content CAG. She will step up for Sue so quickly and will not only cuttle with her she will chat non stop with her.

She still plucks and don't know if that will ever change. God only knows how many years she has been plucking. But I have never seen her so happy and playful.

I am so glad I let her go as hard as it was because she now has the happiness she needed. Plus since Sue and I have been friends forever I can see Vern anytime..

Vern does seem abit worried when I am there though. I think she is afraid I am going to take her back home.

Chris bless your soul for parting with Vern, knowing she will be happier and well taken care of and it's a major + having a friend take the bird.
Wonderful that Vern is so happy, playing and talking away.
I think when you are leaving she is sad, remembering all the good times you to shared.
Awesome that you may see Vern, as often as you wish.

That is such great news Chris and I'm glad that your heart is at ease knowing she is so happy and that your still able to have contact with her

Yes, it heartwarming to know that some people have the birds wellfare in mind over their own needs. A nice holiday story and thanks for sharing it with us.
