Iggy- YCA
So I thought Iggy might have been getting better behaviorally...even though he took a chunk out of my finger on Thursday, he was fairly quiet and well-behaved on Friday and Saturday. I was WRONG

I was carrying him to his cage today before I went to school to study, with an oven mitt of course, and he managed to aggressively nail me three times between his play gym and his cage. Luckily, I was wearing a sweatshirt as well, because I think he's figured out that the oven mitt = protection, and now he skips biting that and is going straight for my arm. I have a hole in my shirt now...

::sigh:: So much for hoping he was improving...

Will Iggy go on a stick of some sort? Maybe you could try that, as least if he does lunge at you then you have him at arms length, hopefully that way he will learn, like he has with the oven mitt = protection for the hands but everything else is fair game. With the stick he can be at arms length. They even have them now with covers over them for protection. I'll see if I can find one to show you. (By stick I do mean perch here, but a long one)

Im thinking silence of the Lamb type mask

I think maybe there should be a site dedicated solely to protection from your bird, and it should include said mask...

Peta, I think it's amusing that they call it a "buddy perch"...try to make something for such an aggressive animal sound like it's for a calm gentle friend, hahaha. I should probably look into something like that, because I'm probably going to be wearing more t-shirts and tank tops soon = more exposed skin to be ripped to shreds. I think he would step up onto something like that...only problem is, do you think that if he stepped up on to that all the time and not my hand (even with an oven mitt) do you think his behavior would get even worse due to less actual handling?

I thought of you yesterday. Got one of them (arm and leg) bird magazines and it has a behaviorists section in the back. when I get home I post up for the one in your state... and maybe a couple close by states too

I wouldn't think so, these are usually used for birds who are not used to stepping onto the hand and just getting them used to the hand. I would hope that he would come to realise that by biting the hand (perch guard) there would be no response from you and so no good would come of him biting. The arms well the only thing I can see there is he won't be able to get to them quite so easily and hopefully then the need to try biting there would stop. The biggest hope is for Iggy to realise that no matter what he does it isn't going to get a response from you.

I know with Bucc, if he doesn't want to go in and he tries to bite if he gets the slightest reaction from me then thats it, I know that is a different situation cos I don't have these problems.

Hopefully in time Iggy will come to realise that there's no gain in biting you or anyone else. I wish I could say that was a certainty but unfortunately I can't :( I can only hope that it would work. As you say soon you'll be wanting to wear t-shirts and that won't be fun if he can reach exposed skin. Ouch.
