I know this has GOT to be a much covered subject over the years, but I want in on this! Where do I go to get all the stuff I want, shredding thingies, wooden thingies( i dont even know what to call the vast array of 'thingies', lol!).
i already am a jewelry maker so I imagine i can do it if i have the metal rods and the 'thingies. I siply cannot afford to spend as much money as I have been on Kiwi's toys, he destroys things VERY quickly. Hell, he just dismantled an entire straw sun hat!
I give him all sorts of foot toys, bottle caps, and so forth but i want to make things for him. Can anyone start me out? Is there a good source for buying wholesale or a website or youtube video on how to do it?
Thanks, all!!

Many of us here LOVE MySafeBirdStore.com

They have EXCELLENT customer service, and customer care which you can see in their little personal touches in the packaging, and (people) candy you get with every order. Also great is they're a bird free environment as are their suppliers so no worry over picking up diseases from their toys and parts. Great prices on most things too!

I don't usually like shopping online, but I love this place! They have a wide range of toy making parts, as well as a huge selection of pre-made toys, and many bird related accessories and supplies.

** I wouldn't use any metal parts that aren't made for bird toys. The safe metals are stainless steel, and nickel plated (steel?). The metals in most of the known brand toys which are not stainless, are nickel plated and safe.

Have fun!

MSBS is probably my favorite, but I've also had good service with California Bird Nerds, Winged Victory and Mother Pluckin Bird Toys.

Here's an example below of something fun that almost every birdy will love... The seagrass mats from MSBS (small are 14x14") and the large are huge. One small is only I think it was $3.99? They also sell in 3 packs. Very reasonable price.

The other day, I looked at Raven's cage (where Griffin almost always is when he's out) and said "oh no, WHERE is Griffin?" To my surprise, I found him on his OWN cage for once, happily playing on his 'busy mat'!! LOL :D

great info, everyone! i am on a site now and see rawhide, which i had not considered! is it safe to use basic raw hide i get from my local pet store?

I would think it would [just plain ,like for dogs]. I have a toy with it on the top.

Check out your local hardware store for plastic chain, cord and heavy rope. I have a friend with a woodworking shop. I collect the untreated scrap pieces and drill a hole in the center to string them from a brass ring. ChuChu works at tearing the blocks apart until every last one is gone and then I do it all over again. I also cut PVC pipe into rings of different dimensions and knotted inbetween on heavy rope. He loves untying the loose knots and watching the plastic ring fall to the floor. These toys are cheap and readily available giving him many hours of amusement.
