This year I want to buy one of my dream birds.

My friend just got a baby Hyacinth and I was able to watch him
handfed her.

You can watch the video here

He named her Roxy.

We also was able to watch her first free flight

Now I’m saving up to buy one as well.

I found the same breeder he bought his hyacinth
she charges 10k.

Is there any other breeder that’s more affordable?

Any suggestions?

You will not find a seller that will charge much less than that for a baby Hy -- that's the actual running cost of them. They take a full year to wean off formula. Not to mention a huge cage (regular cages won't hold up to their beaks) the cost of a play stand/java tree, along with their continued care with vet visits, spending $200 a month on toys, their expensive taste in nuts and fresh fruits and veggies daily (likely another $200 per month), for 60+ years. It's going to be an over $20k investment in the first year, easy. It really adds up, you can't really be on a budget if you're planning to get a Hy.

They're one of my dream birds, too but it is well known that they are some of the most expensive birds to care for. Good luck!

Ditto the above. Hycaniths are expensive as can be

Met one last year and it had the same size cage that 4 macaws were sharing and even then it was only just the right size. One I've seen online is free roam in the garden which the owner has turned into an aviary (an idea I want to do in the future)

We have a gentleman on this forum who worked with every Macaw imaginable at a rescue for years training socialization behaviors. He has even stated he wouldn’t get a hyacinth even if he could. They just cost way too much money and require too many accommodations.

Look into a green wing macaw. Only slightly smaller, 80% less in price, and they have very similar temperaments to Hys.

Or my favorite, a harlequin macaw!

I already own a Catalina Macaw.
I thought getting him a buddy his size.
