I'm currently babysitting some kids and we are just playing outside and I hear this noise that sounds very much like a parrot trying to talk so I go looking and low and behold... it's a crow. I've heard of corvids learning to talk but who knows. Certainly and interesting experience.

Crows are pretty dang smart. Some of the birds in the area around my home definitely sound "parrot"-like, at times. I wonder if they're mimicking Mango!

I've seen some TV specials and read some internet stuff on talking and otherwise clever corvids.

doesn't look like it. different family / genus

Hmmm. They look like crows to me. Anyway, crows are excellent talkers for sure. We have a colony of wild conures here in Indialantic. Birdie gets very excited when she’s in the porch and they all land in our back yard live oaks.
