cinnamon green cheek conure named bishop 2 r 3 years old
in the tree in my back yard:eek:. this morning when i woke up i hard bishop chirping and i could hear the same chipping back from outside, sounds just like bishop but i can not see it.:( i can hear it from time to time. if there is a lost one out there how would i go to catching it so i can return it to its home? i looked all over but i have not seen that anyone posted about losing any birds around me. I am 100% sure it not a wild song bird for it make the same sound bishop do.

One of the reasons that we all teach our birds "Step Up", is so that it is a phrase that since we all use it, all birds should know it. I have said "Step Up" to lost birds in trees, and they've climbed over to me. Because it was familiar to them. Try saying that and see if you get a response. If you have an extra cage, set it outside, and see if a bird comes to it. Birds like things that are familiar to them.

Set up a cage with food and water outside if possible, maybe even put Bishop outside to coax the other down? :)

thanks for all the help i will try that too. i just want to make sure it gets water for it really really hot out today.

It could be a lost pet or it could be a wild bird that has learned to imitate bishop. Mocking birds, blue jays and crows are all great mimics. Hopefully if it is someones pet you can coax it down to safety, and if it turns out to be just a crafty native then we can all just get a good chuckle :)

It may very well be one of the natives! The mockingbirds used to drive me crazy when I first moved here, imitating the telephone. Finally I figured out it was a bird, not the phone, but I had to ask a neighbor what bird it was. I was pretty sure it wasn't a parrot up in my trees, and it wasn't. Until you get a good look at it, it's hard to say, and the mockingbirds were hard for me to see.

When I was young the catbirds used to drive me insane , I thought there was a lost kitten somewhere , lolol. My Mother would get a good laugh watching her 9 year old looking for a lost kitten , lolol.

I've done the same thing so many times! It's unbelievable how much they sound like crying kittens!

Lol! How funny!

We live across the street from an elementary school, and yesterday Puck responded to some of the squeals from kids playing across the street. It was pretty silly.

I'm glad, too. It's probably one of those darn mockingbirds! I can't tell you how many times I ran into the house thinking the phone was ringing (back in the day when I still had a landline) before I figured out it was a bird.

i never know that they could copy other sounds. mockingbirds are cool

I didn't know Starlings could talk until I saw it on this forum, and looked it up, lol! I know they can cry like babies because they do that to me during the winter when they are hungry. The whole flock will land on my front porch and start crying for me to feed them.

LOL Roxy! That is so funny! Can you plleeeeaaaaasseeee post a video of it next time they do that??

I love mockingbirds! I raised some baby mockingbirds when I was younger. We hand fed them! They were soooo cute and fun though! We let them fly free around the house, and eventually let them come and go as they pleased. Gradually they became totally wild. I miss them! :)

Now that spring has started I don't know if they will come beg unless it snows again. I sure hope it doesn't snow again! I need to figure out how to shoot video as well. I know my camera can shoot short ones, but I've never done it, lol! I'm old and technologically disadvanted.

It's when there is a lot of snow that they come crying for food. The very first time it happened I really did think someone left a baby or babies on my porch, lol! Here I had taken food to the barn for the cats instead of putting it on my porch because I knew the cats didn't want to leave the barn and be sinking in the snow. And the birds came along and said, wait a minute...where's our cat food?
