I think I'm going to get another fid.

It's between a conure and a cockatiel. I know conjures can be noisy. I can't decide. I want a fid that will sit on my shoulder and let me pet it. I want to play with it and share my bird safe food. If I get another fid what would go better with a budgie. Since its another species will it affect bonding with Ace? Will it affect talking ability? Talking is not required just a bonus so I'm just curious about that. I'm getting conflicting info.

Well first, conures are much different from cockatiels! They're similar size (tiel and gcc) but so different temperament wise.

Many people will say their conures are wonderful pets, and I'm sure they are... But have you heard Birdman666 say about Conures, that they're just shrunken Macaws? Therefore, they "can be" a needier species. Even a well adjusted one taught to be independent, is still not AS independent as some other species. Cockatiels are one of the more independent ones. Which means it might be a bit easier. Keep in mind too, easier doesn't necessarily mean beginner, and needier doesn't necessarily mean an advanced parrot... It just comes down to what you specific traits you want, and are right for you and your lifestyle. I love the more independent species personally.

I'd get the species that YOU want, regardless of whether they'll be friends with Ace. I personally don't think anything goes as well with a Budgie as another Budgie. I'd get another bird without assuming they'll get along. The budgie is so tiny, he'll have to be watched with any other species anyway. If I had to choose who "might" get along better with Ace, and might become friends, I'd say cockatiel. The tiel is also Australian, also more parakeet-like, and generally are easy going with other species. There's my opinion :)

Yeah budgies love their own kind, mine love each other so much it's really adorable to watch them fuss over each other. They are so happy together.

I love both species. My cockatiels were laid back, whistled and just cool. They weren't as playful as my gcc is but both species are wonderful. My gcc doesn't whistle like my tiels did, my gccs voice is gravely and low. He is quiet, my tiels were a bit noisier but none of their noises ever bothered me. they've all been great. I'm considering having a tiel as a second fid someday as they are generally so laid back and pleasant.

Well I chose. Meet my new tiel. I am happy now. A conure will stay on my wish list for a few years. The New guy is tame. He came right to me. No more birds. I can't quarantine and I won t take any more risks. Poor thing is so severely clipped he just drops. Because of this I've dealt with my first blood feather. The whole thing came out and I applied pressure till the bleeding stopped. He still comes right up for everyone. The conure I decided not to get at all right now.

It won't let me post. Says I've exceeded my limit.

Many of us have a Photobucket account. It's free, and very easy to use. ;) Upload your pics to Photobucket with a couple simple clicks, and copy a link to paste on here.

What color is your new guy? Male for sure? Any name ideas yet? Where'd you get him? How old? Questions, questions... Lol.

He is 3 to 5 months old. I bought him from a small breeder near my house. I kinda wanted a yellow one but I got him because he was so tame and that was more important. It was kinda hard to pass on the free conure but I did. As much as I want one a tiel is a better fit. My kids worry about getting bit. I got to pet s Mac while I was there. I'm gonna have to be very careful when he is out. He just drops. It's scarey.

Thank you for not raking me over the coals for choosing not to quarantine.

Aww he's SO cute! I love tiels faces... They're just adorable. I love his "little dirty face"! Is he a normal color, and his face will clear to white as he matures?

Quarantine is not foolproof anyway, and it's your decision, no one else's. I usually get them virus tested right away and vetted for a check up. Whatever you personally feel comfortable with is your choice :)

I'm not sure. Now I wish I had gotten a better look at his parents. I guess I could call them but I've already called twice today. I got to see lots of birds today. Ring necks. Lovebirds. Macs. And a Parrottlet. I guess I'll find out when he moults.
